Air Filter Install Question

I've got a replacement K&N filter to install and somewhere on the K&N site they recommend that you disconnect the battery for 15 minutes after installing the filter so that the ECU will reset itself and adjust to the new filter.
This was a generic instruction and I wondered if it was necessary for the Z.

People will argue on the actual results. I figure, if it could help the vehicle's ECU "learn" the new mod more quickly, why not do it? It certainly won't hurt.

your ECU will relearn itself soon enough.

As a altima 3.5 owner there has been a lot of discussion on the altima web site about doing that and the bottom line is it doesn't really do anything. From what we discovered, unless you have a consult unit the ecu is fast in learning that you put on a new filter.

One other thing we found in our discussions, some people have been successful in getting the Service Department to modify the timing and that improved performance. Some people had them advance it 2deg and some 4deg. You guys may want to check it out.
