Default K&N Typhoon installed

Yesterday night i finally got my K&N Typhoon intake

Took me about 1 hour total to remove the stock intake and fit the Typhoon (not including CAI piping which i will leave for now). Everything fitted very nicely and accurately without any issues.

Looks very nice and sounds even better! Similar but allitle more "metallic" sound then the previous BMC cone filter i fitted to the stock intake piping (similar to POP charger), i guess it could be due to the metallic box which acts as a resonance chamber. For me driving now is greatly enhanced with the agressive and responsive sound, especially at high/top RPM where the Z is quite dull stock, its like night and day

I ordered Silver intake piping, but apparently K&N has disscontinued all colors except Polished and Blue, but the Polished one turned out alot nicer IRL then from the previous pics i have seen. Below is how it looks installed on my car.

When it comes to gains, butt dyno is useless as the enhanced sound creates an illusion of more power, especially at top RPM where it just screams very loudly at WOT. I will run a few test runs with my G-Techpro to see if there is any noticable increase/decrease in acceleration, Ill post the results here when i have perfomed the test.

(In case the direct link above dosent work): K&N Tyhpoon fitted

What's it look like under the cover? Is the rest of the air box metallic?

UNder the cover its a metallic box that you fix with 3 bolts on brackets that comes with the intake, it has 2 wholes into it, one large for the main intake tube and one for the front air ram pipe.

Check this page out, all the info you need :-)

Here is the installation guide with pictures, shows you all the details how it looks and installs:

Yes and what i forgot to mention is that it also comes with a "HP Increase Garante", if you install the intake and it dosent produce any increase in power you can send it back to K&N and get your money back!

Excellent choice, but where is the tube that goes to the scoop behind the grill?

Like i mentioned, i havent installed that part yet, partly due to that i might re-spray the intake tubing soon and partly because of waster ingestion risk... I mean if it rains alot there will be atleast some drops beeing forced up through the piping and into the airbox, dont know if thats harmfull for the engine or not though.

This intake's CAI way safer then other CAI's with the filter in the grille, but still im not fully confident in exposing that risk (if any).

Its next to impossible to get water from the scoop into the engine: the system is NOT sealed. I've driven in some serious storms. Then opened the filter box and looked inside. Not a drop of water. Take advantage of ambient air outside the engine bay. Don't worry.

That scoop makes a big difference, that really is the key to the system. Do not worry about water, I have had mine on for 15 Months (36K) and have NEVER had a problem.

i agree. that scoop is in the front of the nose where our car has a higher pressure zone. air will basically flow anywhere if its channelled correctly. that includes going up that pipe, through the stock air hole and straight into that airfilter..

i wonder if people could buy just this lower piece and fit it with the JWT pop charger.. i like JWT's velocity stack .. does the K&N have a velocity stack too?

K&N offers filters with molded in velocity stacks along with an open top element. This might be a small but beneficial mod.
