All test pipes will make the check engine light go one, no 02 sensors and cats cause that light to go off, Only way to fix is add 02 sensors or mechinical fix (weld it).
As far as brands, I have had the Helix pipes and am satisfied with them. Made car a little louder.

you can pull the fuse for the check engine light can you not? I think it will kill all your dummy lights, but it will fix the problem.

I haven't yet ventured into the realm of shopping for test pipes but I'm curious now that I hear about the check engine light problem. if this is true that there is no true remedy then aren't we risking possible fuel management or timing issues? in my previous car the aftermarket had come up with something called MIL eliminators to trick the O2 sensors into believing that everything was running correctly whenever someone put a straight through exhaust (thereby getting rid of the cats). this was essential to do since w/o it the O2 sensors would be telling the ECU that the air/fuel mix was messed up and thus try to make the correction which could be harmful after a while. does anyone have any input on this? sorry to jack the thread...

It depends on what year Z you have. Mine is a 03 with FI and I've never had a check engine light with my test pipes.
