Default Popcharger problem

I just installed my popcharger on Saturday. Everyone always mention how there is a sucking sound and then a whistle. Well, I installed it and noticed nothing.

It sounds completely the same as before when I had the stock air filter... I tried reving it to 6k rpm and it still sounds very stock

On top of that, I can't tell any difference at all driving the car before and after...

Is there something wrong with my popcharger (I bought it used)? Or did I somehow install it wrong? Please help...

Thanks!

It's hard to install it wrong, but just in case, pictures would help if you want us to tell you if you installed it wrong...

And I hope you just didn't park the car and rev it up to 6k, you have to be moving.

And if you have a load aftermarket exhaust, that ususally drowns out the wistle. I have the Borla TD exhaust and I can still hear it, but not as much as when I had stock exhaust.

Also, the popcharger is supposed to give you maybe 7-10HP gain, I doubt you will feel it that much. Intake ususally works well together with exhaust. Sometimes you will see better results when you have a combination of mods.

Many drivers comment about the “sound” of an intake, but I think that they’re virtually “noise free.” Some people’s hearing is more sensitive than others.

I don't how you guys can say it doesn't sound any different with the popcharger. It is much louder with the popcharger! Not at idle but above 4000 rpms and at full throttle it is a night and day difference. At least with the top down it is. It may not be as a big of a difference in a coupe.

Floor it getting onto a freeway. You'll hear something when you approach redline.

I will post up some pictures afterwork. I also replaced the factory tube with a UTR tube. The only thing i can pictuer me doing wrong is the rubber tube connectors. It was hard to fit the UTR CF tube onto the plenum and onto the MAF sensor. Maybe it's loose or something but I doubt it is...

I just took it out during lunch. I rev it up while driving to 5500rpm. I hear no difference in noise...

Take off your hood and then take it for a spin.

7-10 HP, I doubt that!

Yep, again with my doubts. Why you following my posts? Lemme guess, your facts are based on a dyno from JWT?

http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/june03/350pop/

" Not wanting to mess around we put the car on the dyno immediately and recorded the biggest gains we.ve seen on any 350Z yet: 6.5 hp at the wheels! The driving difference was noticeable, springing a welcomed quickness to redline. To say we were amazed is an understatement. It.s not that we.ve ever been let down by the POP-Charger but it usually gets out-gunned by the fully piped Cold Air Intake. What a welcomed discovery: the most affordable intake modification we.ve tested makes the most power."

And that is just with fans, who knows what gains it would be in real world driving. They have the dyno chart to show their test. This is an independent review. Not associated with JWT. They have nothing to gain.

I don't want to get into the debate of "dynos don't really prove anything" or the debate on a "cold air intake has more gains then a popcharger". They are both tired old arguements. The reason why I went with a popcharger is that I knew that I would be geting the varis air duct to go along with the popcharger setup. That way direct cold air will be pushed right to the popcharger. No need for a cai to go all the way down to the raidator.

I respect your "doubts" but I have at least backed my claim with a test.

PS: I just got an invoice from Varis. My air duct is ordered

Check out the post above zand02max. Besides you dont even have the pop charger on your car. Why do you doubt a product that you don't even own?

I have stock 350z with a UTR CF tube and popcharger. No I do not hear it like I said in my first post and I do not need to get my ears check because they are fine.

If I know how to drive, I belong near a car as thats what cars are for - to be driven.

I do not feel any power gains and but I do know enough about my car.

There was no need to talk me down. I was just asking for help, if you cuoldn't offer me help, then why bother replying.

To everyone else - I really appreciate everyone's responses so far. Thanks to everyone who responded with the intention of helping me or figuring out what could've went wrong.

Another trick is to drive next to a wall. The wall can put off a nice echo and make the sound louder.

If you had installed the popcharger wrong, your car would idle rough or stall. What color was the filter? If it was grayish then it might just be dirty and need a good cleaning to let the air through.

you should be able to hear a difference in between the 4-5 grand range the motor gets louder. IJust installed mine a couple days ago in about an hour and my freind and i installed the intense motorsports resonated race pipes. The combo of those two gives the engine a very nice tone.
