Question Poll: NISMO Headers OK in New York State?

OK, I'm thinking about getting these headers. My concern is about passing New York state emissions and noise inspections. Can anybody here that lives in New York state give some testimony?

I know that there are cheaper or better headers, that's not the point of this thread. I need to know if I'm going to have problems getting my car inspected and registered. Any realiability issues with the cold weather months?

BTW I will be getting the NISMO Cat back and I don't plan on going FI. In case anybody was wondering.

Thanks in advance,

-LamaZ

If you don't replace your cats and just do headers and exhaust you should be fine.

They are hard to see... But, if they do see them they are NOT carb approved...

The only CARB approved headers are the DC SPorts...

Get the stainless steal in NY no matter what...

As long as your Check Engine Light is not on or has not been on for a while prior to inspection you will be fine. NY doesn't check for CARB approvals. If you buy Nismo, your dealer should be able to tell you the same thing. Where you buying, got mine at Dorschel.

Cool thank you all for your replys, so from what I gather the important issue is that the Check engine light (CEL) isn't on. Or hasn't been on for a while.

PS: Jason I still have your PM where you suggested the DC sports. I'd really like to maintain my car as "Nissan" as possible....but thanks for the heads up.

you dont get any CEL or codes from any of the Headers... some high flow cats / test pipes on some cars give it to you...

Just because something is a NISMO product does not make it "NISSAN"...

Its branded with the NISMO Name approved by NISSAN...

There is no warranty with the NISMO Headers...

so do not get them for that reason...

GreetZ Gary King, I will be staying as far away from Dorschel as possible. I had various issues with them when I purchased my 20th Anniversary Maxima. If you see them, give them a big "F -U" from my part. I let Nissan Consumer affairs have an earful about them.

I'm going with Greece Ridge Nissan. They have been cool. The fleet sales manager is aces in my book. I still have not dealt with the service guys, but I have high hopes. They hardly get to sell any Zs, so they are pretty excited to deal with somebody as enthusiastic about a Z as me.

New question, anybody with the NISMO headers, CAI and Cat back get the check engine light?

Wise words. I think the Cat Back is made by AEM? Everything NISMO is re-branding. I just get some warm fuzzies thinking that my car is all NISMO, hence these things are tested as a system tried and true to work well with each other.

Thanks for the advice Jason,

+1. Keep the OEM cats and you’ll be fine. Headers have nothing to do with emissions (not that I know of).

Could anybody upload or point to a PDF with the installation instructions for the NISMO headers. Is it really that hard to install? Do they just slide on from underneath the car, or does one have to take half of the engine apart to get them on?

ThankZ,
