Default Easy way to remove stock exhaust.

Look I didn't find anything from searching so is there some easy way to remove the rubber hangers on the stock exhaust? I have a greddy sp-2 and want to put it on this week it's been sitting around almost a month. Also can you reuse the stock studs for the muffler flange? I'm not to great with a wrench but surely I can do this install it's just that I got this barely used and not sure if i'm missing anything. Jared

I instaled my own exhaust and let me start off by saying if you have a lift or access to one it will make this install SO much easier! As for the rubber hangers...they werent that bad..i actually used pliars to get them off lol...it worked for me...one end slides on and off easy...the other is a pain but not bad...just becareful not to break em...my exhaust came with the bolts and nuts and gaskets but i imagine if they are in decent shape you could re-use them...the 4 bolts at the end of the Y-pipe will be the hardest to get to...the upper 2 bolts that is...I would say it should take you about 2-4 hours since u say you arent that handy with a wrench...just take ur time and start with the muffler and becareful...you will be fine!

hope this helps some

Putting the back wheels up on ramps, I took the two bolts from the rear can I used a 2' pry bar to just push the rubber over the bulbs and off the hangers. Takes about 5 seconds using the pipe for leverage. I have to worry more about the muffler falling on me than anything else.
The hardest part of taking old systems off is rust, mine was like new when I took it off but a buddy with a year in PA looked like it came off the bottom of the ocean. The hardest part was the Y pipe to B pipe bolts were rusted solid. After some work with the dremel the rest practically fell off.

Good luck and take your time.

take your time. WD-40 worked for me. Spray inside the rubber hangers and push the muffers forward and back to get it all lubed up. spray again and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then it should start budging. Take your time. Just the muffler has 3 hangers, so make sure you know where you are pushing the exhaust off to not break anything.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. I still would like to know if anyone knows If I can reuse the stock studs that come on the oem exhaust flange. I bought the sp-2 used and there is no hardware with it. Just in case anyone didn't know the sp-2 is a axel back not a cat back.

If I remember correctly, the stock B pipe has captured bolts, just put the new muffler on and use the original bolts. Make sure you use the ring seal as well or it will leak.
