Default y pipe, true dual ?

okay, please don't beat me with a stick for asking this but do true dual exhausts eliminate the need for a Y pipe?

but seriously, why do so many people get y pipes and catbacks when they could just get a TD? isn't it better bang for buck?

It depends how you define “true dual.” For me it means exhaust gases from one side of the engine stay on that side, and are not combined into one pipe.


The Y-pipe combines the exhaust gases into a single pipe. At the end of the pipe is a muffler.
