Default Star Screw ..... screwed me... Typhoon SRI Install

I was installing my K&N SRI today and was halfway done when I discovered something that was not in any install site anywhere

MAF Sensor is attached to the air filter housing using a special STAR SCREW with a hole in the middle...

I had to put back the stock intake and drive to my local store and find this special screw head....

Just venting....

Tomorrow, I will try again...

BTW anybody attempt to install the cold air extension for the typhoon from the top.. is it doable...?

I assume you're talking about a Torx screw. They're becoming more and more common on cars. I bought a set of drivers a couple years ago and have used them several times since.

This is why it's always a good idea to look through the instructions just to see if special tools are going to be needed. Most decent ones will provide a list of required tools up front.

nope not a torx screw...

it's called a tamper resistant stardriver... looks like a torx screw with a hole in the middle...

I had a Black and decker tool kit that had everything except for these.... bummer

the instructions and online reviews never mentioned this tool being needed... I presume that not all z's were shipped this way
good thing my local store had a 10 dollar set that included these....

mine is Nov 2003 build.. I guess that's 04.5 model...

the MAF connector is also short and barely reached the repositioned MAF... had to wiggle things a bit for them to fit...

But all is done... took me 2 hrs.. because of that bumper cover screw that's a pain to remove...

I think I know what you are talking about (a photo would be helpful). My kit came with 2 allen wenches. One fit the carbon fiber cover. The other fit nothing.

The MAF line is a tight fit. I removed the engine cover. The line is clipped to the front of the engine. Cut the clip. Reinstalled the engine cover.

i used a regular "u" shaped torx bit and it worked fine

i agree the MAF is very tight, even when u undo the clip under the engine cover, it looks like its being pulled almost

i had a few issues fitting the airbox on the 300hp engine, the bracket bw airbox and front of engine had to be reshaped
