Default spacers or new plenums

I have been debating on either getting the crawford plenum and strut bar, or the motordyne 5/16" spacer....If you had the choice, which would you go with?

Look at the charts published here: http://www.motordyneengineering.coy/350Z.asp.

I was all set on the Kinetix plenum this spring, but after that chart, I don't know anymore. I'll wait until my Sport Z mag arrives so I can read it in detail. The only advantage I see now for the plenum(kinetix) is that it weighs less then stock plenum with spacer.

This chart convinced me to go with the 5/16" Basic Plenum spacer. I ordered it yesterday.

What I am waiting for is to read if the MD spacer they tested was the spacer only and not that ISO stuff they are selling as well. I want to know what "MD Basic" means, does that basic mean that they only tested the spacer and not the ISO thingy that they just recently developed.

That is my assumption. “Basic” is as described above.

Sweet! Yeah, with that price, it is not the ISO option. Now I'm wondering if you really need that ISO option and will it give more improvements.

Another question after seeing those dynos now that I know it is not using the ISO thingy. Is how is it that a spacer can beat out the Kinetix plenum when the K plenum is about the same height and it is made of plastic which in theory is less of a heatsink then metal?

The MD spacer might be only of the best bang for the bucks after the popcharger if this is true.

You "had" it? Why did you get rid of it?

I just read the MD site:

5/16" Basic Plenum spacer: $215
This stealth modification adds 11HP-13HP and is the simplest to install. The 5/16" plenum spacer is fully compatible with all stock and aftermarket strut bars. The engine cover easily fits and never needs to be cut. With the engine cover and strut bar in place the engine bay looks completely stock.

5/16" Iso Thermal plenum spacer (with all Iso Thermal components, Aramid gasket and CCV): $265

This stealth modification adds 11HP-13HP and reduces the effect of power robbing heat soak. The 5/16" plenum spacer is fully compatible with all stock and aftermarket strut bars.

The engine cover easily fits and never needs to be cut. With the engine cover and strut bar in place the engine bay looks completely stock.

5/16" Copper Iso Thermal plenum spacer (with all Iso Thermal components, Aramid gasket and the Polarized Copper TB heater): $315

Use the copper if it ever snows in your area.

My question is, why should I go with anything but the "basic" if all of them are claiming 11-13HP?

the iso parts help stop hot air being poured into the plenum. Cool air is alot better for an engine than hot air. You cant really put a dyno hp gain on increased throttle response across a range of engine operating temps

ive fitted the iso parts on my car, and in stop start traffic i no longer get any heat soak. The throttle feels as crisp on a 40 degree day (that's celsius) then on a freezing cold night. If you need further confirmation that these parts work, drive the car for 20minutes and then try and rest on your hand on the plenum.....fit the iso parts, and the plenum top is merely luke warm

for the cost of these parts, and considering you're ripping the stb and plenum off anyway, you'd be foolish not to fit them

It appears the the OEM upper plenum is a good design, it just benefits from being taller.
