MREV Question?
I Have an 06 touring 6MT, and I want to purchase the MREV kit. I live in NY, and I am not sure if it is necessary for me to get the copper iso thermal, or save the $50 or so, and get the basic iso thermal. What exactly is the difference between the two? And what does the MREV+ give you for the additional $122? More power? Also, will the MREV function good with a CAI? thanks guys

The "copper iso thermal" is a intake manifold gasket that resists transfering energy (In this case heat) from the lower intake plenum to the incoming air charge and the upper intake plenum. It reduces your overall intake temperature which yields extra power as the incoming air is more dense. It's discussed all throughout the forums but that's a general summary.
I'm going to be picking up the MREV+ in a few months for sure.

i have an mrev+ without copper, but i live in a warm climate. without the copper, you get a valve that you can set for hot or cold. mine is permanently in hot mode. If it gets cold - the official line is 55 degrees or less - you switch the valve to the cold position, which allows the coolant to warm up the throttle body. i've been unoficially told, that it's actually less than 55 degs, that it has to be so cold that the throttle body gets stuck, but i have no way of checking this as i live in a warm climate.
your next question asks about a $122? i'm not sure what you're refering to. if you are refering to the mrev+ option, as opposed to just mrev, then its a polish on 2 of the 6 runners of the plenum that allows for a slightly better top end, to counteract the slight loss you experience with the regular mrev.
As to CAI - i have been researchign this question on these forums. it looks like cai's don't play well with spacers in general (as you know, mrev is the plenum and a spacer). You would be much better off, with a short ram. Moreover, even if you don't get the mrev, a cai wouldn't give you a bigger hp bump than a stillen hi flow box - http://g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89617

The copper Iso kit contains a copper heatsink/gasket that goes where the OEM throttle body to upper plenum gasket goes. The copper part has coolant running thru it so it automatically keeps the TB heated regardless of the outside weather and the part also keeps the upper plenun cool by isolating it from this hot collant. As in Frick's explanation it is in place of the manual coolant control valve in the basic kits.
Just go to www.motordyneengineering.com and see the different kits with their explanations.

I have the Merv+ and was running it with a cold air intake untill today. I changed it into a short ram and honestly notice a difference. Props to Alberto and Tony @ motordyne for brining this issue to light.
And trust me, get the Merv+, its great and you will enjoy it. And go with a short ram intake. Asside from being compatible with the Merv+, its easier to clean, safer(because you cannot hydolock).
