Default headers installation

i have headers, i want to get it installed and one of the shop here in NJ said that 100 dollars per hour and it takes like 6 hours to install it, what you guys think of that price? i think its a riped off iam not stupid to pay 600 dollars for headers installation, coz for what i have seen in this forum it takes like 3 to 4 hours to install it and most people paid an average of 350 dollars.

$100.00 an hour is a fairly common hourly rate nowadays. It took me about 10 hours to install headers on my car. That was with a lift and power tools. Maybe somebody who has installed headers on a Z many times could do it in 4 hours but I find it hard to believe. Some nuts are very hard to get to and take a long time to remove and tighten. I would ask the shop if they would do it for @400 and see what they say. The worst they can say is no.

It takes about 8-10 hours on the first set you do, after that it gets down to a straight 6 hours..some guys get it done in 5 hours, but the average billing rate is at 6 hours. We charge $100 per hour if you buy the parts through us, and $120 per hour if you bring your own parts you purchased online or on Ebay..This is for 2 reasons, first one being our profit margin deminishes when outside parts are brought in, and second the "quality" of parts 90% of customers bring us is absolute crap and always is more of a headache to install than the parts we are used to selling. what we try to do is discourage our customers from buying EBAY crap that does not ever fit right and does not last. We just choose not to do business rather than associate our name on a crappy product and crappy install that will fail in months leaving the customer blaming MRC rather than "Joe's Headers.com"...
This method of quality control is the way m ost reputable shops will be going in the future. I learned this the hard way after quoting 3 hours on a Ford Focus header a kid brought to me from EBAY..Well needless to say the header was complete crap and took my 2 mechanics 7 hours to install it correctly after having modified it to fit the way it was supposed to..I took a hit on that one.
We already operate on a slim profit margin on most components due to all the online price whoring of any person who sets up a website and has $10,000 to invest in inventory. What gives shops like us the edge is we are able to install everything we sell and stand behind the product AND the labor.
You can expect, in the tri state area to pay an average of $500 to $600 for a header install, from an experienced shop. you can always take your car to Hectors Honda shop and have them hack your car all up for a few hundred $$$$... But dont expect them to stand behind their work..
