Default Plenum+HFC+Pulley+Videos

Just got the Skunk2 Plenum, Kinetix HFC's, and the UR underdrive pulley. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the result. The car feels like it has more low end torque and throttle response has increased big time.

The UR pulleys have one problem: At start up when its cold they squeel until the engine is warm, I don't know why, but I'll take it back to the shop to get it checked out.

The HFC's smelled a bit at first, but the smell is 100 percent gone now. The car sounds just as quiet as it did before at idle and normal driving, but at WOT it sounds much louder and throatier then previous.

The intake plenum doesn't have a noticeable sound, but I'm sure the plenum added to the engine's eagerness to revup as fast as it does now. Before the mods, I revved my engine quickly and it revved to 3500. Now, with the same type of revv the engine goes up to 4500.

The following video shows me racing my friends Z (he has 3.91 final drive, Popcharger, and Exedy Clutch & Flywheel. He dynoed 240 HP and 238 TQ on a dynojet).

The Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=***-5D5cGeA

Race 1: From a launch, I beat him pretty nice.

Race 2: From a roll, I beat him pretty nice.

Race 3: We switch cars, I drive his, he drives mine. I get a great launch on his car, he didn't get too good a launch with mine. He just about passes me with my car at 85-90 mph.

Race 4: Adrian is driving my car, and he misses 2nd gear.

Overall, the car feels much more responsive and a bit faster than before. I'm guessing about a 15 hp increase to the wheels.

it didn't even look like your friend was in the right gear from the roll...i mean....you instantly put like a car length on him each time. i know you have the plenum spacer and HFCs.....but his car a bit of work done. i am surprised!

Yeah that was me driving. The one from the roll, i started in second, i should have started in first. But Kam is definitely a better driver. I didnt realize before that a good launch could make that big of a difference.

sweet mods in both Z's but i thought it would be a lot closer than that. isn't the FD supposed to put the Z in the mid to high 13s especially w/ the clutch and flywheel? Anyways, i was thinking of putting in UR pulleys, how much did you pay to get that done and what shop did you get it done at? This question is for the driver w/ the FD, do you really think it was worth it to get the FD when your buddy's mods probably costs a couple hundred more but the performance he gained was obviously more worth it than the FD/clutch&fw setup you have? i say this because he probably had you beat 3 cars on a majority of the races. btw I'm from the oc area as well. thanks ahead of time and nice videos.

pulley cost 200 plus 200 for install, and the work was done at GT Motorsport.

I have no regrets getting the FD and the clutch/flywheel, and i still think it was worth it. Anyways, i think the reason i got beat so badly was b/c kam is a better driver than me; when we switched cars, the race was a lot closer. The FD also helps out a lot on road courses too.

If Alberto is reading this, I want his opinion on my shifting. Is my shifting as good as yours Alberto? Or should I keep practicing? Any tips?

The HKS does make the Z sound like a Cessna.

Who's car is in the right line? That's exactly the exhaust sound I DO NOT WANT. No offense. I want an exhaust that sounds like the factory drone but a little louder.

Nice write up and vids. I have heard positives and negatives on the pulley. Will it lower the engine life or is that just talk? I bet this would be a great to do. I know on one of my last cars, it greatly increased throttle response, and free'd up the revs.

Yeah, the exhaust is pretty loud ... but it doesn't sound like crap in person. The camera we recorded with wasn't very good. Anyways, here's a clip of what it sounds like inside the car ... not too bad IMO.
