Default What are the cons of buying a used exhaust..

I have been told by a friend that buying a used exhaust system is not a great idea, I am wondering if he knows what he is talking about. He said something along the lines of a used exhaust system won't perform nearly as well because it is 'used' to the previous car.. true?

I hope he doesn't have the same theory for girlfriends!

The ECU has to adapt to less back pressure. The old exhaust has nothing to do with it. Save yourself some money and buy it used if you can.

Exhaust has no moving parts so you are pretty safe. Gaskets, nuts and bolts are inexpensive.

What will be a headache is missing hardware such as unique hangers. Fabricating hangers can be a pain in the butt.

ditto on the missing hardware....can be a real pain if it's something that cannot be had at a local shop (since some companies don't sell hardware kits separately...like Injen)

It's fine as long as the guy did not sell it to you with some cracks or leaks.

i tend to save money and buy used exhausts and such all the time. bought a used downpipe for the EVO, at a third of its retail cost and it was perfectly fine!
