So, you did not go with the Magnaflow "X" pipe?

Has anyone else on here done it?

Its a custom piece. I thought about the Magnaflow, almost ordered it. But went ahead and had a custom one made. I think the Magnaflow would quite it down more.

It fits like a glove if you simply slot it into the original location of the injen resonators
Strife350z, a few quick questions regarding your setup.

1) Do you have any pix of your setup?
2) Can you take some if you dont already have some?
3) Where exactly did you cut off the resonators; meaning how many inches forward of the resonator did you make your cut?
4) Do you have test pipes and if so, how was the sound b4 and after?

I am asking because I am about to buy a used set of used test pipes and want to o this setup.

TIA,
Zach

For those who have removed the resonators on the Injen SES, what is the length of the resonators?

After checking some prices online for the Magnaflow "X" muffler, I found that www.completeexhaust.com has the polished SS "X" Muffler for $102 shipped and they also have the non polished version for $105 shipped. www.ajusa.com and www.summitracing.com both have the non polished version for $96 shipped!

These both are true "X" pipes correct? I am thinking about going ahead and getting the polished version for the bling factor as Strife did. I already purchased a used set of Xerd test pipes to free up my exhaust quite a bit!

Sounds like a good idea Zach

Wish i would of went with the Magnaflow. Too loud for my taste just having the X-pipe with out the resonators. And those are some good prices.

I will have to measure the resonators on my Injen Exhaust when i get home.

Looks like the measure at around 16 and half inches. But you will need to alow alittle more to have room to cut them off.

Hope this helps

Thanks Ace! It looks like the polished 14378 is around 17" in total length and the non polished 11385 is 20" in length. I spoke to a tech at Magnaflow yesterday and he told me that the 14378 was NOT a X and that the total body length had to be at least 14". He did say that the 11385 IS a true X. I think I will probably go with the 11385 because he said it was a true X and because it is a little longer and gives a little more room for error.

I just purchased the 11385 from www.performancepeddler.com for $86.02 shipped.

If you're looking for the polished version. Try the 14385

Hi Zach,

No problem... I replied to your PM too btw.

1) Not yet... but I can. Let me take some pics this weekend... I'm bringing the car in for some other work so it'll be on a lift.
2) See above.
3) I cut the resonators to align EXACTLY with the magnaflow x-muffler length (20"). The model I bought was the 14385. It has a tru-X core, and based on the extensive measurements I performed prior to doing this mod, it was the best fit in terms of spacing between the inlet/outlet pipes, length, and desired flow-level. Keep in mind that as an resonator, because it has about 8 inches of its length devoted to the tru-x, you need to ensure you buy the longer-style mufflers to get any true sound dampening. If you opt for a muffler that is shorter in length, you will get less sound dampening from the 'resonator' component of the muffler (although you will still get the nice smooth x-pipe sound if that's the only thing you're after).
4) I have HFCs. I installed these after I did my initial mod on the injen though and it did make it a tad louder, but not by that much. I've heard a 'stock' injen with HFCs compared to mine, and mine is 20% quieter and *MUCH* smoother sounding (IMO)

Good luck with the mod... I sent a few other details in the PM, so check your inbox

I got this mod done yesterday and the sound is much better. The shop that did the work cut out the stock Injen resonators and the swelted (word??) the 4 openings of the Injen piping until it was the same OD as the ID of the Magnaflow muffler. This eliminated the need to fabricate couplers to get from the 2" pipe to the 2.25" ID of the Magnaflow pipe. The guy then welded around the joints to make a good fit! It is not sexy or anything, but it is functional.

Currently, I have headers, stock cats and the Magnaflow muffler on my Injen exhaust. Prior to the Magnaflow muffler, I had a slight raspy sound when revved and now I have absolutely NO rasp!! And it sounds a little deeper. I will install my test pipes this or next week and then take sound clips and create a new thread on what I have done.

Having my custom X-pipe removed way to loud for me. Going to add the magnaflow X-pipe in later next week. Found a super deal for i ( $70 )

Our cars do need some sort of resonator in the middle of the exhaust or it sounds like complete ARSS

Just to give you guys an idea of how this sounds, I have sound clips of before and after the Magnaflow X Pipe Muffler. I will also get sound clips of the setup once I get the test pipes installed next week. The top vid is w/o the Magnaflow muffler and the bottom vid is with it. Enjoy!

Not bad, i should of went this route to begin with ( it was the plan ) It does sound alot better. Hope to have mine on next week. Right now i dont have cats, so im not sure how that will effect the sound.

You notice anything as far as performance with the X-pipe muffler?

Not really. I am not running it hard as I am F/I and I dont know how it changed my AFRs. Don't want to risk blowing the motor up!

Has anyone had a chance to dyno any gains from the Magnaflow X pipe added to a TD w/ no X on it before? Very interested in the results

yeah........ just go with a stillen if you want a dual with an X pipe... and HKS if you want an H pipe.... why pay so much for an exhaust just to hack it all up.
