Default Finally Heard an HKS Dual Ti in Person

Hey guys,

Just wanted to make a quick post about this...

Thanks to Glex25 for making this happen and especially for letting me drive.

I have heard a lot of hype about this exhaust and I've seen a bunch of videos of cars that have it installed. In most of those videos, the exhaust sounds buzzy. Everyone claims that in person, it doesn't sound the same.

Everyone is right.

The best indication of the exhaust sounds would be the in-car videos of the black Z. They are from a long time ago and I believe they are posted in the sound clip thread.

This exhaust sounds awesome. It's not much louder than stock until you get on the throttle, and when you do, it sounds very exotic. The exhaust also looks really nice. I didn't expect the tips to be that large.

As far as performance, I couldn't really say. I wasn't paying attention to anything but sound really. Glex25 let me drive his G35 during our 3 minute cruise. I think he has a few minor mods, but I'll let him post about that if he wants. The feeling was skewed a little regardless. I drive a 287HP motor 6-speed Z with a popcharger (usually only me), and he drives a slightly heavier car, both of us were in it, he has huge (and NICE) rims...

Anyway, to make things short, I liked it. Now I just want to hear one with HFCs or test pipes (resonated or not). I believe Glex25 said he may be springing for some HFCs soon so maybe I'll get my second wish.

-Chris

Yeah doing an exhaust capture is a tricky thing. Most of the time the mic is
close to the exhaust and it seems to saturate the audio. There is no comp
when hearing an exhaust in person versus an audio clip.

DIY Oil Catch Can.
HKS only on the exhaust
Tein Basic, Stillen Sways, Spc Camber Kit on the Suspension
Racing Hart RS-721 wheels in a diamond finish with black trimming.

The usual audio upgrades

I'm on the fence about the HKS. Several ppl have mentioned rubbing problems near the differential. And I would really like to hear it with my exact setup (TT, resonated TPs) before plucking down $1299.

Got mine installed last week after like 10 months after i ordered it (6 months delivery time and then winter...)

Fully agree with SBT's post. No drone, only very slightly louder then stock when cruising calmly and idling, when you come on the throttle though its significantly louder then stock though not overdone, VERY exotic sound!!

I have listened to practically all HKS soundclips that you can find on the net, and it both sounds like the clips and not at the same time... All to the possitive side for my taste, it sounds better and more lively then in the clips.

It sounds like the tone has been tuned and engineered carefully, perfect volume and frequency. Very aggressive without beeing overdone and excessivly loud and droning.

Ill post some sound clips when i have sorted my header leakage (now it the car sounds like a mix between a Ferrari and lawnmowner hehe)

/Roger

I would tend to agree... I loved most of the sound clips of the HKS, loved hearing one revving at idle at meets, but started hating it the moment I paced a Z with one installed a few weeks ago. I followed the owner around for a good 10 mins (we were headed in the same direction) and it sounded tinny, farty and non-melodic.

That's just my opinion though... sound is, obviously, subjective

I have heard this exhaust with and without test pipes finally. I can officially say after hearing it I love my Evo 2. Does sound nice, but way too loud for my taste unless the car was as fast as it sounded.

Was it a TT or a NA?

Yes, please post a video.

I have the HKS with Crawford Cats. I've been considering test pipes for a bit now and would like to hear a vid.

I have the HKS and it's awesome. Only down side is it rubs on the diff bolt. I plan on fixing that soon.

My car still sounds really horrible due to the header leakage (awaiting delivery of new gaskets), but when driving a short stretch today i was amazing with how exotic the HKS sounds, its really quite close to a Ferrari at mid RPM's, above the intake sounds take over a bit but still very exotic.

Cant wait to get the header leakage and bodykit completly fitted so i can head out for some propper crusing on the nice twilight summer evenings
