Default K&N Cold Air Intake model 63-6013 Sound Question

Greetings All...

New to the forum and have just started on mods to my 2005 350Z Roadster. I started with a K&N air intake model 63-6013.

I love the sound it makes over the standed intake. The issue is I have is this...At a certain throttle point and somewhere around 3500 - 4000 RPM, I hear a very highpitched sound. It is not for a long time, and as mentioned, seems to only be at a certain throttle point and not after 4250 RPM.

The engine runs wonderfully and idels just fine. I have seated and re-seated the clamps and what have you and still have this sound.

So...question is...normal sound? I have nothing to compair this with and thought I would take the time to ask.

Thank you kindly for your time and help.

David

LOL....Thanks. I am guessing it is the air going past the butterfly (is it still called that) when it is at a certain angle. Can here it now for the air volume is much more than before thus the high pitch sound.

Thank you agan.

Ummmm, no. The engine still flows the EXACT same 'air volume' as before at the same rpm. The reason you can hear more of the intake sound is because the new air filter is less restrictive and probably has more surface area, that's all.

Hi...

Thanks. But does not less restrictive mean more air flow? If not, the sound would have not changed at all from the factory intake if it has always been getting what it needed. As such, more air flow (less restrictive) would be able to make for a different in sound as it flows in.

Understand, I am just looking at this logically. Just trying to understand then if the engine gets only what it wants, and always would, then why even add in such mod? (other than colder air if it was ported all the way to the front.) I thought the intent was cooler air and more volume for when it is needed.

Thank you kindly.

IMO, this mod is a step backwards. Replacing a design that pulls cool air from outside the engine bay with one that pulls hot air from inside it? Sounds like a recipe for less horsepower.

If horsepower were that easy to bolt on, wouldn't Nissan have already done it from the beginning? They could say "more than 300 HP" rather than "300 hp" in their marketing.

Just my 2 cents...

Hi...

This design does not pull air from the inside...it pulls it the same way as the factory does...just more. When the hood shuts, it seals the top of the unit so the only air that gets into it comes from the from of the car though the air dam.

This does, as well as others, produce more HP. Dyno tests do show this. (Unless they are all a fraud.)

They do not do it for a number of reasons, one of which is carb emmissions and other US Laws.

Any mods that you do on the intake or exhaust will alter sound. As long as there is no vacuum leak you are OK.

This sound indicates that your engine is detonating due to too much air. Take it off as soon as poosible Pretty soon, the sound is gonna ruin your transmission too.
