Default Anybody tried AEM DryFlow filters?

Hearing so many horror stories with oiled intake filters, I am surprised so few people seem to be using "dry" filters like the AEM DryFlow filters. Can anybody comment on these dry filters? Any pitfalls that I am not aware of?

I don't have an aftermarket intake yet. I am thinking about the popcharger and getting an AEM DryFlow to replace the one that comes with the popcharger.

not sure they make a dry flow that will fit a pop charger yet.. they might... you can always set up an AEM dry flow intake as a short ram...

so far havent heard anything bad about them... checking them out in the shop they seem just like the old, but obviously dry... may even flow better as well...

i have it on my car (celica) works great, the construction is pretty beefy, not wire mesh that can get dented. The walls of the filter are about twice as thick as the normal aem oil filter, apparently aem claims it flows better than the oil one and it is easier to clean. I have heard some issues of bogging but it pobably was due to dirty MAFs. Good product..

autoanything.com is about 45 shipped. would recommend it but it wont replace the pop charger, its made to fit over the shortram/coldair intake pipes

Looking at
AEM's site
, it looks like there are DryFlow filters ranging from 2.25" inlet to 6". What are the dimentions of the pop charger filter? Does the pop charger have a different mount?

Pop charger's cost + the ~$45 for the DryFlow is still cheaper than the AEM short ram (~$280). Plus I'd like to keep the stock intake tube.

Default Popcharger/AEM combo

I've just received the PopCharger and the adaptor diameter (part you mount the filter to) is 6". I also just ordered the AEM dry filter today that will fit the JWT Popcharger adapter. The AEM part has a 6" ID opening and is 5" long. The updated part number (per AEM customer service, not the website) is 21-209EDK.

I'm looking forward to putting this combo together

Amsoil has a new type of dry filter as well. I believe they make one to fit the PopCharger, but I took that off and went back to the stock box. So far, the filter works fine.

Zardoz, why did you go back to the stock box? Did the oil filter mess up your MAF?

No, it didn't at all elyliu. I went back to the stock box after talking to Tony at Motordyne (I'm looking to pick up the copper spacer and MREV+ from him). Here's a basic breakdown of what he told me: One of the main points to the copper spacer is to keep the upper plenum cool. However, with the Popcharger being right in the engine bay, sucking in all the hot air around the engine, it kind of depletes the purpose of the copper spacer.

Also, I think there were a few posts on here in which members who had the Popcharger and the copper spacer were complaining about the engine still being hot as hell to the touch.....so that kinda proves his point, so I figured why not, it can't hurt.

However, I do miss the sound of the PopCharger at wot.

I was just notified that the AEM filter I referenced never made it to production therefore at this point, I guess it's not available.
