I agree sometimes you can find some amazing deals with a little patience and time, I always like a good bargain but sometimes people don't like buying used parts, you never know what the person before you did to it. and davidv why do you assume that because its replica its automatically a jerry rigged walmart special?

I plan to do some testing of my own once I get this in and post my finding online, you guys can then make your own opinions on it. I just wanted to find another alternative to buying the NISMO exhaust. I just got a stillen s/c so im not concerned with getting much gain from this unit, just want the sound and finish.

If that's the case can't you just replace the muffler and exhaust tip section?

My description was less than flattering: I should have said custom exhaust. But a true custom exhaust involves fabrication, installation, dyno testing, tune, tweaking, dyno testing...

Few 350Z owners have the dollars for this type of exhaust work.

Not really the piping would not be the same size nor would there be less bends improving the exhaust flow. I think the bigger piping less bends and different resonator and straight through muffler make the difference between it and stock. I use to have HFC and an Injen SES, it was so loud and totally changed the sound. I have since removed both of these pieces and gone back to stock to keep more back pressure for my s/c that way I don't loose boost. I can however upgrade the exhaust, I figured NISMO would sound awesome with a blower, that whine with the unique nismo tone would be music to my ears. This is what I hope to achieve

I agree. The name is associated with a quality product. You're also paying for "demand", research and development and of course the name to an extent. But I would be leary of buying a knock off, simply due to potential quality issues.

One or two hp? .5 db louder?

Exhausts for our cars are certainly ridiculously overpriced and us (the market) see it as "better quality". It's really not. Yes, there are plenty of low-end exhausts out there that seem to have more complaints about quality (OBX, Megan), but they are mass produced just like Nismo. I think a hand/custom made exhaust, using a good muffler and good piping with good welds, will be just as good, if not BETTER than Nismo or any other overpriced exhaust out there.

Stop worrying about the damn name stamped on the side of a piece of pipe and open your eyes.
Custom fabricate it. And dyno it. Let's see.

Most of us don't want to deal with the hassle. When I buy Nismo Exhaust, I know exactly what I am getting, down to sound, hp/tq and weight reduction. I know it works and is reliable.

Great news folks, my new custom exhaust was just delivered to me at the office. I have to admit the quality is exceptional. Everything looks perfect and just the way that I wanted. I will snap some pics later for everyone to see. Sometime this weekend I will weigh it and install it to see if there are any fitment issues. It is lighter then stock I can tell you that, its all SS and shines. Wish me luck the true test will be when its all bolted up and I turn the key.

This will be interesting... since you do coin your title as Nismo Replica

I considered buying one of the knock-off pieces from ebay, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it wasn't a good idea. Different grades of SS, weld quality, fitment, quality of components in the muffler itself, etc., etc. Obviously Nismo commands a certain price because of their reputation. If a majority didn't think Nismo was good, then there would be no Nismo.

I'm not knocking you, I commend your effort for trying to do something as good, but for less. It can be done, but it’s going to take a lot of work! IMO, more work than it’s worth in the end, all said and done.

ps I picked up my Nismo new for $800 shipped, the deals are out there for those willing to hunt. I installed it myself and and was impressed with the quality, fit and sound.

if you think nismo is too expensive, go for this:

great bang for the buck

this is just an exhaust guys. yes nismo did research to get it to what it is now, but since the work has already been done, as long as you coppy the bends, pipe size, and muffler size, it will provide EXACTLY THE SAME PERFROMANCE as nismo.
if the quality of the SS is not as good, then it wont last as long, but performance will be the same.
if they use good quality SS, then you are retarded to spend double on a nismo.
