Default New Crawford High Flow Cat Bracing

After several trials and iterations of bracing the high flow cats, a super strong solution has been found. Due to the design and flex of certain exhaust systems / y pipes, bracing our aftermarket high flow cats has been a concern. Between fitment and general vibration the bracing tabs have now been moved from the converter shell to the exit pipe to provide the strongest possible bracing location. The tabs are now individual pieces that attach to the brace via bolt and to exit pipe using muffler clamping. This allows for the minor differences between y pipe designs and prevents added binding forces and stress on the converter shell.

I have personally tried 3 different tab designs and even ran a no bracing design for a while with my fujitsubo (nismo design) y-pipe. I can tell you this is by far the best iteration. There are NO exhaust rattles and no strange vibrations introduced into the cabin, which is something that I had experienced with some of the trials. I would say this design mimics factory bracing effect and is completely solid.

Call for more information and availability. As always, all hardware is included with purchase. Our latest shipment of cats to Performance Nissan includes the new tab design and necessary hardware.

Thumbs up

my nismo exhaust likes the sound of this.

Would this get in the way of underbraces, such as the Tanabe?

If the braces fit the stock cats they should not be in the way of these.

Looks like shiite, but if it's functional, well, not then either. Is there a way to weld that or maybe even attach the L bracket like a horseshoe around the flange? I'm going to take a stab at it and see what it comes out like.

How is the clearance between these cats and the upper heatshields? I had the last version crawford HFC's, and while they sounded great/performed great, the fitment was bad, and unfortunately the passenger side developed a crack after only 2 months. I had extreme rubbing problems on many areas.

The braces can be purchased seperately for the guys that already have the older version cats. The clearance issue is really not that big of an issue, some of the cats will run the heat shiels from the car to the cat but if you put some bends to it, it should fix the problem.

what about the people whose Cats cracked again. Will Crawford just replace the cat or send the brace with the cat? My concern is thay it does not seem fair for me and other members who have already purchased the cat to now have to buy a brace to prevent the cat from cracking???.... especially since some of us (including me) have spent extra money to ge it installed each time... please advise.

Thats something you would have to work out with Crawford but if it was purchased from Performance Nissan, it should be warrantied depending on time frame of purchase. If you dont have the NISMO exhaust or the NISMO exhaust without the NISMO y pipe, the cats should not crack.

It's a lot easier to buy the Ultimate Racing HFc's as they have the OEM style brackets welded in place from the get go.....no reports of cracking either. The extra clamps not only look like crap, they scream modification to any "authorities" looking for a reason to hassle you. It's a wear gloves for a leaky pen type of solution.....no-thanks.

It is not a "wear gloves" situation; it is a fix to an issue that has occurred with the nismo style exhaust systems.
And moving bracing around and changing it isn't going to cause any trouble with a visual test as long as you pass the sniffer; it is highly unlikely someone will even notice it is any different then stock.

Do you think I need the bracket? When I ordered mine from Performance Nissan they didn't come with it. I have stock exhaust right now.

It's fixing a poor design which suggests the manufacturer has little or no experience in cat's/exhaust. Why would Nissan have brackets? To add weight? Perhaps to add cost? The right answer is to properly support the cats to avoid failures/cracking.

Do you have them in stock? How much would they be (w/o the cats)?

If you have the stock exhaust you are fine. You wont need the brackets but if you decide to upgrade your exhaust Id consider a true dual like the HKS.
