Don't know if I like my HKS...
I can tell you that the Borla with stock cats and Strup headers sounds great. It doesn't sound like an "asian" car at all. Just a smooth, deep note. No rasp what so ever and only slight drone around 2000 rpms.
I may install a set of high flow cats in the near future because the Borla is quiet with stock cats. It is only slightly louder than stock except at high rpms and WOT. It is much louder than stock above 6000 rpms. Normal city and highway driving, it is barely louder than stock.
The biggest complaint with the Borla is the install and possiblity of leaks. Installation is a pain because there is so many different pipes and you need to tweak it for it to fit perfectly. As long as you torque the clamps properly and retorque them after a few hundred miles a leak shouldn't occur. I haven't had any leaks but if one does it usually happens in the H-pipe. That can be easily fixed by having a muffler shop weld it for $20.00.

Exactly. If you ever want to "virtually" play with final drive gears, play a realistic racing game such as Forza (xbox), and you can manually select your final drive gear. It will show you how the acceleration and top speed changes for increasing or decreasing the final drive ratio.
For example, in Forza when your car is slow (N/A) you will want to choose much shorter final drive gears and an upgraded lightweight flywheel/clutch so you can shift faster (because you will be doing more shifting), but don't make the FD so short that you can't keep up on the straightaways.
When you turbo your car in Forza, you will want nice tall final drive gear so you don't have to shift so much, and since you will have much more power, you will have amazing top speed on the straightaways.

I just hate how buzzy it can sound when there's a wall nearby on the freeway, etc. Not to mention rasp, and ever since I added Kinetix HFC's, rasp is even worse. Not saying it's that bad, just that I'm not loving it.
I'm wondering if Borla would be better for me. How is drone and rasp with Kinetix HFC's + Borla?
I just hear the Borla is supposed to sound muscley, while the HKS to me seems sort of.. asian. Not so much 'ricey' (not fart-cannon). But asian.
I'm kinda looking for a more meaty, rumbling sound.
The other thing that excites me is, if I were to get a used Borla, I could sell my HKS for.. I don't know, somewhere around $1100 probably, and I'll have a good amount of cash to spend on other mods. Maybe 3.9 final drive. :-P

you need to go to a meet and check out the systems for yourself. Exhausts are very very subjective on these cars. To some, a Injen sounds "great"; to others, its far too loud
I also have no idea what an "asian" or "japanese" sounding exhaust is honestly, at least on this car. There are several Japanese brands that are not buzzy, droning, or offensively loud at all.
Define your budget first, and work from there.

I went with Injen due to the fact that its a lower note, sounds exotic, looks just as good, loud but not too loud, and its much cheaper too.
Here are some sound clips of my car driving by and sitting in the drive-way
