Anyone have flowmasters on their 350z? I was thinking about getting the Hushpower II for my Z and was wondering if anyone knew what it sounded like?

 

I thought flowmasters was for american cars...i could be wrong...Ive read injen, stillen, and borla yield the best results for the Z

 

what about sound, which sound better, i wouldn't want the freakishly fart cannon that civics make.

The injen sounds horrible. The Borla and Nismo sound the best by far.

Take a look at magnaflow, I have a magnaflow setup and love it.

 

personaly i wouldnt get Flowmaster for a z at least but i have injen and im very happy with the sound and performance, i dont no what this guy is talkin about ...

I personally would not put flowmasters on anything, do you really want to be like everyone else? They put those overrated mufflers on everything, its for people who don't know anything about vehicles that assume by welding on some FM's to your 4 or 6 cyl. rice rocket it will magically sound like a V-8 stang which it will not. Sound is not everything anyway, do some research to find the right kind of exhaust for you that actually yields some gains and cuts off a few pounds from the stocker. If your serious about putting these things on you might as well just run some long tube headers, cherry bombs and no muffler, stick a giant hood scoop on there while your at it. Oh and don't forget the pony decals Seriously though if you like the sound of a flowmaster look into the magnaflow cat-back exhaust, sounds great and performance is improved plus its all SS keeping the stock look plus shedding a few pounds. Magnaflow makes some very nice pieces and you can count on their products, they are used in many high performance applications. Also consider what your future goals may be before choosing b/c if FI is on your mind your going to want the least restrictive exhaust with bigger piping which on an n/a application would normally be an overkill and could cost you some tq down low. I read the post referred to above, the guy wanted a cheap alternative to buying an exhaust which makes no sense to me b/c why would you spend so much money on buying a sports car just to go cheap on the aftermarket parts? You might as well stick to stock if your doing that, I guarantee the quality will be better

 

Before I bought my Nismo exhaust I was considering the Flowmaster but there would have to be a fair bit of custom fabrication to get the tips right (and I would rather spend that money on a better exhaust than into labour).

Having said that, I don't think Flowmaster is a bad exhaust like some people are making it out to be. Its cheaper because its a mass produced universal aftermarket muffler.

It would be interesting to hear what it sounds like on the Z.

 

Flowmasters sound good, but are extremely restrictive. They are internally baffled and force the exhaust to make many violent turns. This increases backpressure but make for a nice deep sound.

If you're looking for something less expensive that an off-the shelf exhaust, get a pair of Magnaflow straight through mufflers and have a shop weld up a custom exhaust for you out of aluminized steel.

 

I currently have the Borla True Dual installed on my Z but it is not as deep or as loud as I would like. I was considering keeping the piping and replacing the mufflers with the Hushpower II ..... Any takes on this?

 

i felt the same way when i was looking for exhaust, i used to have a trans am and couldnt bear to have my car sound like a rice box. I ended up buying the stillen tru dual and its sounds sick. i've been complemented on it multiple times. Its deep, loud and just plain addicting.

 

you are wrong on the flow master design. they are not restrictive in the least and can yield better gains than straight pipe. the majority of import style mufflers are nothing but glorified glasspacks that are polished and have a name stamped on the shell. Ti tips add a bling factor, but thats about it.
flowmaster has dominated most noise limited competitive racing series than anything else for many years.
muffler design has grown from the racing efforts put into V-8's. a muffler name does not care if it is on a honda, mitsu, chev, or a fiat.
after a month of research, i found the muffler i want to go with. they are starting to take over flowmasters arena in the V-8 world. there is a 1000+hp supra running a single 4" aeroturbine here that races competitively.
you can not argue against technology born from 60 years of racing development. a motor is a motor. the same basics apply to engines made by an import manufacturer
