Default Intake make A big difference on Z?

I've noticed that most of the engine sound comes from the exhaust. Now if I were to get an intake would that effect the sound at all, or the performance?

Which Intake do you guys suggest? Best sound/ easiest installation etc?

Can someone please explain how a 4 to 6 whp gain from an injen intake makes such a significant difference that it can actually be felt? Is that what their butt-dyno tells them or what?

Say you have 2 of the exact same Z sitting side by side, and if you wore earmuffs driving them each one at a time, you could tell without a doubt which one had the intake system? Thats what I and most all of us would aggree is a "significant" difference.

Also, my 2 cents says that the sound is barely any different with the hood down and while your on the road with the stereo at even a fairly decent volume.

200+ dollars for an intake system that gives you as much power gains as an aftermarket drop in filter just doesnt make sence. Performance wise or even just for sound.....

I agree with Omega... half of the posts in the "performance" section are about exhaust and intake which net you 5-10hp in total... I rarely read this section because of it. The only real performance mods out there for the Z right now are suspension. When a good ECU comes out, I'll be all over that too.

All that money spent for sound? Doesn't make sense to me either.

I have noticed one thing though, most of the Z's hitting 240hp+ on the dyno have had K&N drop in filters.

I agree 100%. It seems most people on this message board are merely trying to justify the cash they just forked over for their own piece of mind. It drives me nuts, the "scientific" approach most people here take. And how do you explain the "dyno tested 7rwhp gain" quoted by Injen?.. The same way you explain how my car picked up 6rwhp on back-to-back dynos with absolutely no changes besides amount of heat soak. And what is another 5rwhp, about one WHEEL length in a 1/4mile race?

Hehehe, I agree with you guys, but there are members here who swears by them . Anyway, I am not sure if even the K&N filter add any HP to the car. Perhaps if compared to an old paper filter element, but new K&N vs New OEM filter...hmmm.

At the 1/4 track I go to that "one wheel length" gives you a flashing light in your lane.

It's called a *win* one wheel or a mile "a win is a win."

It's the world of bolt ons.

5 here, 3 there, 2 there 10 here, more cold air in more hot exhaust gas out plus 20HP not too. It's just how some play the game.

Besides if you want to go Nitrous or FI you will beneifit from intake and exhaust mods.

I have done the KN, I didn't notice any difference, I put flowmasters on, I only noticed the sound difference for the most part, but when I added the INJEN CAI, I noticed a difference in the butt dyno. My point is, when I added the flows, I couldn't really tell any difference but in sound, so when I added CAI system and could tell a difference, it wasn't in my head. I even tested it by letting some of my friends ride in the car while saying nothing, and they even ask me if I did something to my car to make it faster. I am not saying this for sake of argue, just my experience w/ the CAI. I am also not saying this to justify the minor money spent on mods.

Yup, read it. That's why I am still convinced that the stock Z intake is very well designed, compared to aftermarket ones.
