Default Should I remove my popcharger

im getting the nismo v2 front bumper and to what i understand it has an intake scoop...since there are no affordable cold air boxes...i figured i would put my stock intake housing with a high flow filter.......of course im trying to keep hot air out..

....what do you guys think?

um, why not leave it? The v2 bumper should convert your poopcharger to a cai. It has a duct the pushes air to the hole in the front where the varis air duct feeds.

They should be compatible.

probably like chit.

op, the duct and heat shield on the POPcharger will bring in cold air. The v2 duct goes in the front opening and funnels in COLD air to your POPcharger.

do i need to draw a diagram?

dude im not new to this...dont talk to me like you know better....

ok the v2 scoop brings in cold air-great

the pop charger heat shield is worth crap and lets all the warm air in-bad

now in almost all the professionally modified Z's ive seen that they keep the factory air box.....so my question is....take the popcharger out? or will the v2 air scoop balance it out?

I say if you enjoy the sound, I'd keep the *poopcharger on.

Otherwise...if you're that hardcore (those that drive around without the spare), the better overall performing intake is obviously the stock box as attributed by protuners.

I'm sure drivability would be better with the box, but power gains from the pop are negligable. So is that WOT sound worth the sacrifice for a little bit better driveability?

won't the cold air passing through the varis duct like hole cool down the air inside the engine bay?

NEVER EVER take out the glorious POPCHARGER! it should be taken out only when you're cleaning it.

It should'nt be hard to cover that filter with a piece of alum. sheet metal. If done correctly it will actually look nice.

Stillen has. I dont get it. I know the pop charger draws hot air from the engine bay but wouldnt the duct draw cold air in? Isnt that why people get the Varis air duct with the pop charger for the CAI effect?

If someone would just create a sealed stock fitting box that will fit my popcharger, I'll take two of those...

The only problem I see with Stillens is the cone filter looks sealed with a chrome cap on the end and the Pop C. is open on the end which IMO draws more air through the front.

For what it's worth, I've done a decent amount temperature testing with my Popcharger. My findings matched up with what another person found and posted about quite a long time ago. (I forget who it was who did the initial testing.) I used an OBD scan tool to note the intake temperature (as reported by the car's computer) in various conditions. The results basically went like this:

At 35+ mph, the intake temp was about 5-10 degrees higher than outside ambient temp. This was also true when the air conditioner was running. So as long as you're going 35+, the Popcharger isn't sucking in air that's much hotter than a CAI.

Below 35 mph, intake temps got hotter the slower I drove (obviously) since there is less air flowing into the engine bay. This increase in temp was exaggerated when the a/c was running.

When stopped and idling, intake temps got pretty hot... about 130 degrees after sitting idle for a couple of minutes. It would hit about 140 with the a/c running. After I started driving, the intakes temps immediately dropped back down.

These results were all taken over a number of days when the temp outside was in the 80s. In each case I let the engine warm up to full operating temp before taking any readings. After this testing, I decided the Popcharger was just fine for my purposes. I *love* the sound, and the intake temps were acceptable as long as I was moving, so I'm okay with it.
