removed front reflectors for AEM intake
I just put on my intake yesterdat and decided I should remove the reflectors because I really couldn't see how air was getting to the intake directly. Anyone with the AEM intake remove the piece of plastic seperating the front bumper area from the side area where the intake lives?
On a side note I'm not positive that this intake increases performance, I may or may not, but it sure sounds like it does.
I scared some kid drive thru my neighborhood this morning he almost fell off his bike.
Anyway I actually think the car looks alot more aggressive with the reflectors removed.

The air comes from the vents in the wheel well. As your wheel turns air is produced. It's not exactly FORCED cold air, however, it's cold air all the same. Taking off the reflector and cutting a hole in your front is not going to give you any better performance. BTW, water is going to soak the filter if it's remotely close to open air hole.
The intake by the wheel well is a good design.

The area where the AEM filter sits is basically sealed up without taking off the reflector, they do nothing anyway. I actually think the car looks cooler with the reflectors. As far as water goes on the filter it doesn't matter at all I guarantee you could run your garden hose on the filter while the engine is running and have no problems, besides it is far less exposed then the injen is. I find that people are way to paranoid about hydrolock then they need to be.
