So, basically you guys in Singapore just learn how to insert the key in your car to start the engine? Do you guys still have full-service gas stations, I assume? In the US, that's DIY for decades now.

Hi Z-U,

LOL that's pretty much it mate! Although some enthuasists do know a bit more about cars, modding, what parts/brands are good/suitable but to actually roll up our sleeves and do installation a big NO-NO! We just send our cars into specialist tuning shops to get the work done. Typically we'll buy the parts from them and they will also charge us for labour.

We still have full-service gas stations! :-)

If you can follow an intruction manual and have some basic tools, you can do this on your own. What are the labor charges there?

Hi Bofa,

Yes would be an interesting skill to pick up if I can do minor mods myself.

I don't have a quote for intake replacement but to give you some sense of costs, installation of a new set of coilovers will cost c. USD133 for labour alone. The shop that sells you the coilovers will also make some margin on
the product.

How does that compare to the US?

Cheers

hey bleachberu! Tell you the truth, i know alot of people on the RX8 community down in singapore that work on their own cars most of the time and installing an intake doesn't really require classes. Just a daring person and someone that is willing to try it. Buy some gum from the U.S. and chew some and spit it to a cops face, your brain will turn into a mechanical mastermind!

Hi NFear,

You seem to know the Singapore mkt well! :-) Yes, Tan Chong is the official distributor for all nissan makes here.

Unlike the US, the Z is marketed as a rather expensive sports car. I'm guessing its due to a different marketing strategy by Nissan + higher import duties and cost of ownership (certificates of ownership-COE that must be paid b4 one can own a car here). A brand new 06 coupe here will cost close to USD100k. (assuming an ER of 1.0USD= 1.5 SGD) The roadster slightly higher.

I don't know the US mkt well but I know cars are far cheaper there. What kind of cars can I buy for USD100k in the US?

Cheers,
B

Is she based in the US now?

I noticed you haven't modded your car yet? Any plans?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Thanks guys. Will look into this. Probably have to order online and get it shipped to Singapore.

Wow, I wish I was working in the US then! :-) Wasn't even thinking of a Ferrari, 911 Turbo would be my dream car.

Cheers,

I might be going to Singapore to visit my gf soon. Want me to bring you one and show you how to install it in 5-10 minutes?

Friendliest popcharger thread? LOL

RX8 is pretty popular with a strong community here as its 1.3 engine gets away with cheaper road taxes. The new 6AT will cost about SGD95k so c. USD59k. The 6MT will cost about SGD 115 c. USD72k.

Hi Nitrouz, thanks for the offer. Definitely consider it. The website I'm ordering stuff from doesn't stock it. When are you coming down to SG? How should we transact?

Cheers,
B

^ It just seems like a lot if you change the currency to US dollars.. it's not much of a difference in price if you bought it in singapore
