Default Intake options for Autos...JWT not available

Hi guys,

The tuning shop I went to last week said I can't install the HKS system as it only works/effective for manual cars. Auto versions like mine will experience power loss.

He went on to suggest a special HKS system for autos but will need to order it from japan. He was searching his manual for it but I was rushing off so I didn't get a chance to see that product.

Note, JWT is NOT available as far as I know here in Singapore.

Any feedback from other auto Zs with intake upgrades? What do you guys use?

Many thanks.

Cheers,
B

I'm not understanding how the transmission of a car effects the engine intake.

When you connect a intake to the automatic transmission the atmospheric velocity pulses get discombobulated. Contact Jim Wolf and order the Automatic Pop Charger or APC for short.

First I've heard of it. Just get the pop charger, you will have no probs.

why is it not available in Singapoer...can't you just order it online? It's an easy install and since your mechanic doesn't seem like he knows what he's talking about (or he's BS'ing you), just do it yourself.

Mods will make power regardless of tranny.

You should go to a different mechanic. He does not know what he was talking about.

Might want to also think about doing a tranny swap for the 6sp PopCharger. It will be well worth it in the long run!!!

Hey bros,

Thanks for the feedback.

But the thing is he's not an ordinary mechanic, in fact the chap I went to was one of the leading tuners here with a very reputable garage. A good guy. Furthemore, I think he wasn't product pushing coz that HKS intake I saw on another Z cost USD600+. He explained I will experience power-loss with it so its not worth it for me.

Yes, I suppose I could order the JWT online and get installed. As far as I know, JWT does not have any distributor or dealer for its products here.

Cheers,
B

Why ask a question of 350Z owners, then debate us with some unverifiable source? Do what you please.

Hi Davidv,

My intention was not to debate you guys at all. I just posted what he told me as I noticed my first post of info didn't flesh out the scenario completely. I'm a noob when it comes to modding and when one doesn't know any better, one just lay out all the different opinions.

No offence. I have learn tons from this forum.

Cheers,

Its cool. Stick around and learn from experienced drivers. Not so much as what they say, but what they have installed on their cars. Ordering mods online is easy. I would be curious if Singapore has some sort of customs charge for car parts.

Hi Davidv,

Thanks for your advice and guidance.

As for custom charges, I'm not so sure. I have not done it before but I will check with the local car forums (bimmer the most active one). I'm keen to order the JWT from the US. Will let you know.

What I find very interesting is that a lot of the guys here in this forum/US do their own installations, I'm really impressed with that! Where did you guys learn to do this stuff? Are you guys mechanical engineers or took night classes on it as a hobby or something?

Here in Asia, DIY esp for cars is pretty non-existent. Everyone takes the car into a garage even for the easiest thing. For eg, something as simple (?) as say an intake change, we will send it in!

I'm guessing labour cost is much higher in the US than here?

Frankly speaking, besides basic mainteanance (oil check, battery water etc) and changing flats, most guys here don't know how to do anything else!

Cheers,
B
