Default Intake Plenums: APS vs. Kinetix

I have read good reviews from people on both the APS Tallboy and Kinetix Z V+. I am doing my Z completely NA for now, so I am working on a parts list and setup from intake to exaust.

Basically, the Kinetix model is MUCH cheaper, and still utilizes the factory strut bar, so it seems like the "easier" option. I am not certain of any hp/torque differences between the Kinetix and the APS model, so anyone who has some experience with the two, let me know whats up.

Yes, I realize APS is top notch, but I dont know if its worth the extra $$ for where I am going with this car.

Just pick up a Motordyne or AAM plenum spacer and call it a day! Strut bar still fits too.

For some reason a spacer didnt seem like the best idea (of course i am a complete n00b to this ****...) but I am guessing the HP gains are comparative?

sport z mag did a shootout and aside from the kenetix v 1,2,3 models breaking they all do about the same. I have had the v4 on my car for at least a year and a half with no problems.

Welcome. I have posted upper plenum and spacer test results so many times that my fingers hurt.

Motordyne....no doubt. Pair it with an MREV2 and wow.....check out my gains >>> https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/248541-mrev2-and-5-16-iso-spacer-installed-on-revup-dyno-included.html

Prices from MyNismo.com, the APS stuff is out of stock, and the online shipping calculator would not work for me.

MREV2: $446
5/16" ISO spacer: $295
Total: $741 plus shipping

APS Tall Boy Plenum: $410
APS Tough Boy Strut Brace: $227
SubTotal $ 637 plus shipping

This is from Kinetix's online site:

Kinetix Racing V+ Plenum: $299
SubTotal: $299 plus shipping
(Shipping was $19.11 Fedex Ground to my zip on the online calculator)
Total shipped to my zip: $ 318.11

Comparision:
APS Solution: $637 (Advert Claim: APS has developed what is arguably the ultimate inlet plenum for the 350Z in high horsepower naturally aspirated and forced induction applications. My note: Typical APS, claim to be the best but no facts.)
Motordyne Solution: $741 (Advert Claim: Multiple independent test show when used with a 5/16" spacer on the REVUP engine, the combination will add a "minimum" of 15+ HP and 18+ TQ in the upper midrange. Many independent MREV REVUP tests have dynod in excess of 20HP and 30 TQ in the upper midrange and with high RPM peak power increased by 3-5 HP.)
Kinetix Racing Solution: $299 (Advert claim: Our plenum has shown a solid peak gain of 14 rwhp and a consistent gain throughout the RPM range.)

You can draw your own conclusions from this data. Both Kinetix and Motordyne are known to stand by their products from numerous posts on the 350Z forums. APS I don't know. One thing is clear: APS and Motordyne are both very expensive for the HP they add IMHO. I guess if you are NA and desperate for every little HP no matter the cost, it makes sense to pay the extra $338 or $442 for 8 or 10 or whatever HP. Personally, I can't get enough traction to handle the power I have on the street, I doubt very much I would even notice the difference between any of them. Of course, I actually drive my car on the street daily, perhaps if I wanted some claim to highest HP on a dyno title I might pay more.

I would wait to see the results of that intake. My guess is it will be better above 5000rpm but you just won't know till people try it.

That intake manifold is a thing of beauty, however, the pricing (TBD, right now they are shooting for sub $1500), again, seems to negate the gains, at least for me. Perhaps on a show car it makes sense, but that is an awful lot of money for those gains.

I just bought the APS tallboy..
Anyone know how much higher it is compared to a 1/2 in. plenum spacer?
I have a g35 and I'm wondering if it will fit with an ARC strut bar.

Also, does anyone know if APS tallboy will provide exceptional gains over motordyne or AAM spacer on a F/I car?

Again, quote:

Price is TBD, but they are targeting a sub $1500 price point.

Sub $1500 does not generally mean $999 or less. But great if it is.

TBD is TBD. Shariff is saying he thinks they are trying to bring it in under 1K he would know better then either of us. It's all just a guess. I would wait till you see the results. Do you have any more hairs you want to spit over things that are all just a guess?

Not really, as you stated, it's all a guess. Personally, I really don't care, I wouldn't buy one at $799. Just making conversation.

Just for a laugh, I did an online enquiry with Cosworth, here is the reply:

Thanks for your interest in our products.

We hope to have the manifold ready towards the end of May.

The final price has not been set.

Any one of our distributors will be able to sell the manifold to you.

Thanks.

I assumed that with all this advice, that you would at least respond, and tell us what you ordered. Guess that I was wrong.
