Can someone explain to me the difference between an X muffler and an X pipe. Does one produce greater gains over the other or is the sound different? Thx.

The biggest difference is that teh X pipe muffler would be drilled with holes, surrounded by a metal barrel w/ sound deadening material filled in. Its not as efficient as a pure X pipe (whose purpose is to serve as a venturi tube).

If you're N/A, the difference should be minimal. If you were supercharged or turbo, it could be a bigger difference. NO one is sure cause its not tested yet. The muffled one however will obviously be quieter.

Besides potential flow rates, neither has a clear advantage over the other. Study the designs. Decide which suits your needs best.

The ONLY reason that neither the singles nor the duals have an 'advantage' is because no one seems to care about actual power production. If we had dyno sheets and comparisons, I could make a decision.

The HKS has be shown to make an extra 14whp on DE motors....maybe more on REVUPs and HRs but I have only seen DE dynos for HKS so far

Plus most people agree the HKS sounds exotic

Not really -

A properly designed single can perform the same or better than a dual, and vice-versa. You won't find much difference than a 5 HP range from the top 3-4 systems - so you should choose for sound and look.

If you want the best performance for a specific need, then have it custom made...BUT there are plenty of choices out there to cover most anything.

The subjective decisions are what you have to deal with...sound and look.
