Default Picking Exhaust and Headers

This was so easy when I had the mustang. You just took it anywhere and said flowmaster 40's and 3 inch tubing give em 600 bucks and be on your way. I can't do that anymore. I was looking either at the Stillen true dual or at the HKS Hi Power. Any input on these two or any other exhaust set up? I need a set of headers too. Which brand is best?

For headers - DC Sport work great, easy to install, and cheaper than most as well.

Take a look at Fast Intentions for the catback www.fastintentions.com

HKS, Stillen and the FI systems are the best HP rated and most popular out there. It will ultimately come to your preference for looks and sound, as they perform within about 5HP and a few lbs of TQ each other.

In comparison...oh yea!

These ares are harder to work on and more expensive for parts.

tell me about it. Ive owned Hondas all my life as well, and damn easiest cars to work on by a mile. For the exhaust, what kind of system do you want? True dual 2.5"? or single 3"? that would narrow the choices.

As for the headers, I heard Stillen claims the highest gains with theirs and price is pretty cheap compared to others. I actually might consider these later on.

I recommend that you:

a. Set a budget.
b. Decide what configuration is best for you. Single. Dual. One or two mufflers.
c. Listen before buying.

You have to remember, when you change the flow characteristics of a system that was designed for stock cats, you never know what you'll get, but be assured, when a system cannot handle the flow properly, and handle the pulses - rasp is what you get, and possibly less performance. Many people have bought the cats on put them on non-FI catback cars. To the best of our knowledge, the cats do not rasp on them...or the owners like it if it does...or they don't know it does.

The FI system was designed to be used with the FI cats and testpipes. Nobody else has a full system like that. Hopefully - one of these days, FI will have a set of headers as well.

I'm happy with my combo. I'd recommend the HKS over the Stillen you are looking at, simply for the weight savings. Stillen is a bit heavy.

Regarding "best headers", Crawford gets the nod often as the best, but this is based off gains shown using their plenum and cats with the headers. Not saying they aren't good, possibly the best, but there really hasn't been anything done to show their gains on there own that I am aware of. Install on Crawfords will be more dificult than say DC Sport, Strup, etc as the engine will need to be lifted to install as well. I'd go with any of those three though if I was willing to keep Crawford in the picture with the installation considerations.

A dyno plot of them was posted last week. Check back a page or two in this forum.

Unless you care about sound. A copper 350z around here has HKS and absolutely no one I've spoken to, INCLUDING the driver, likes the sound of HKS's 350z exhaust. Also proven to hurt torque, and is fugly as hell. Sorry if you have this exhaust.

Borla (weld the H-pipe), injen, or nismo sound the best and closest to stock on an N/A 350.
