there was a thread that I read just a little while ago where some one had mentioned that test pipes could damage your muffler because they tend to back fire because of the unburt fuel.

has anybody had this happen, does anyone know for sure whether or not test pipes will damage your muffler.

how does the stock exhaust hold up to test pipes

i have had my testpipes on my stck exhaust for about 7 months now and i HATE it....they rattle to no end and they do miscolor the exhaust tips to a ****ty brown color as well as stain the back bumper by the exhaust fumes.....do urself a favor and save ur money and dont put them on.....also my check engine light has been on....i have the cell fixer but im just taking off the testpipes and putting injen exhaust......i dont me to sound mean..but i hope i answered your question

 

When you run testpipes or high flow cats, you will not burn as much of the spent gasses as before, so they do go through the system. I have not heard of either of them causing a muffler to go bad, but your car is running extremely rich or lean, you could cause a muffler to burn out/wear out sooner than expected.

The best solution for power, less fumes and sound, would be high flow cats, and there are several on the market. MOST high flow cats will not cause the CEL either, as they are cleaning the exhaust and burning up the gases, just more efficiently.
