Default Poll: Testpipe 'rasp/rattle'

This problem only seems to affect people who have testpipes (cat-removal) pipes fitted.

Just a little poll to help get to the bottom of who is affected by the rasp/rattle induced by testpipes and how exactly the rasp/rattle can be possibly be avoided.

The rasp, is NOT just audible from the tailpipes, it is also heard from the middle/rear underneath the vehicle and actually at the junction of the Y-Pipe section. It occurs coasting around 2k-3k rpm and when revved at idle when revs fall at the same rpm

Please answer the Poll, then if you feel it will help, detail in a post YES or NO follwed by your exhaust setup. May help get some idea of when and how it occurs

Stock Y-Pipe or aftermarket? Stock or aftermarket muffler/rear section? What brand of Testpipes?

Please try and keep the thread a neat as poss. . .

Jamie

NIsmo headers, TurboXS test pipes(unresonated), Nismo Y-Pipe, Nismo catback.

I have a ton of rasp at anything over partial throttle from 2k to 4.5k RPM. Under deceleration I have a lot of rattle between 2.3k RPM down to 1.9k RPM, combined with an odd whisping sound.

Backbox, maybe its a UK think but 'rear muffler' is what i meant, 'cat-back', yeah all the same, but catback is abit misleading as if it truely was, the Y-pipe would be changed too. . . .

basically, aftermarket exhaust AFTER the Y-Pipe. . .

but then why would he say test pipes, with y-pipe and catback that wouldn't make sense.

is the backbox from the y-pipe back

once again sorry i'm not trying to be an a$$ or anything, i really am not sure what you are talking about

I have everything... No rasp. You have a double selection on the poll.

YES, I have testpipes, AFTERMARKET backbox and AFTERMARKET Y-pipe is listed TWICE...

You need a NO I do not have rasp with the above.

My setup: DCSports headers, Megan Racing Resonated Test Pipes, Stock Y-pipe, Stock Exhaust.

Here is what I am hearing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq6eIQ1z3E8

This is the RPM's where it happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_FMsIDBusQ

Sound has been pinpointed at the Y-pipe. IT IS NOT THE USUAL RASP SEEN WHEN TEST PIPES ARE INSTALLED. It is a shrill squeaky sound. I put the car on a lift. I sat it in and reved it. A friend stood beneith the car and listened to where it was happening.

I am fed up with it tho... Ordered Injen SES exhaust today!
