Default Cat questions

So, I have searched and found some info on cats but need more help. I am going to gut a set of stock cats. As I understand it 350z cats are dual chamber, one is a resonator, and one is the actual converter. What will happen if I only gut the resonator? Will I still need non-foulers? Obviously sound will be more agressive, should I just gut the whole thing? Open to input/tech info. Thanks.

Wrong section. Do a search in Intake/Exhaust section and you'll find millions
of results.
Anyhow, just replace your cats with Crawford High Flow Cats.
If you want your car to be even louder, simply get Test Pipes. You'll need non-fouler for that though.

Now go search!

The inner diameter of the OEM catalytic converter is restrictive. The design itself is restrictive. Test pies will cost you $200. Why not save a big headache.

appreciate the search suggestion............
anyway I have searched this topic and several people have done this mod with good results. I was just curious as to the function of each chamber.

If you're going to gut/ ruin your cats anyway... Why not just put a set of test pipes on & call it good?

In a nutshell....I purchased a set of cats for $80 delivered. If I can gut out just the resonator part to free them up, and retain the converter portion its a win win for me. If not I have a set of test pipes that look stock, retain stock mounting, won't crack and cost $80.....either way its hard to beat imo

You want to remove the secondaries only. It is a bit of work, get a couple of good drill bits.
