Default Anyone do Headers/Y pipe with stock catback?

I'm picking up my G35 on thursday and i'm already looking at mods for it. And my first mod is going to be an intake but i want to open up the exhaust in a few weeks but don't want an annoying exhaust tone or something a lot louder then stock. Would it be bad to do Headers/High flow cats/ Y pipe and stock catback to keep it quiet?

I'm pretty sure anything you do to a stock exhaust will be louder. I have a Nismo Cat Back and it alone is louder. I would only imagine if you put headers, Y-pipe, & a Cat Back then you are looking at a huge difference.

It all depends what is loud to you, IMO it wont be damn loud unless u get Test Pipes. Any other exhaust except Top Speed or RS-R (are the loudest)...then HKS is somewhat loud, ,the rest are not as loud.

You are sorta defeating the purpose of putting headers, tp's/HFC's, and a y-pipe if you are using a stock cat-back system. You will have larger piping going into a smaller diameter pipe which won't yield maximum gains for your aftermarket parts.

If you want something with a little more power but not change the sound of the exhaust too much. I would go with tp's and adding another resonator on the stock b-pipe.

Thanks guys. I just don't want to lose that sweet sounding exhaust tone. I've heard some 350z's with lots of exhaust work and it sounded like ***.

Agree. Go performance. Go quiet. But forget performance plus quiet.
