Nismo CIA
Just put a nismo CAI on my G and i like the intake sound....but i think i lost power...i checked leaks...i had the engine light for 3 days after install but its gone....is it normal???....I know intake really doesn't make large increases..i think I might have gain in the top end but def. lost the bottom...i understear during u turns.....I used to get the back end out with little effort
....hmmm...anyone know whats up???
Does not sound normal to me.
When I installed the Nismo CAI I never had a CEL at all and the car actually reacted very well to it (gains at the dyno were 5whp/4wtq, after a couple weeks of letting the car get used to it)
The sound really changes quite a bit and it is very pleasant.
Maybe you just need to give it some time for the car to get along with the mod.

thanks for the quick reply....thats sweet that the increase was seen on dyno...I've had the intake for about two weeks now....I think the sound is gettin better....maybe I in need some more time....hmmm...on the brighter side I did get better gas milage....i'm running like avg 27-28 on highway...
What you've lost is throttle response. The long tube CAI's all suffer from this lag do to the inertia of the intake charge of atmospheric air trapped in the tube. This micro-second delay is compounded because it also momentarily gives the MAF confusing readings and the ECU doesn't know what to do.
All those micro-seconds add up until eventually, you can actually "feel" the delay. Once the air gets up to velocity in the tube, you will experience slightly better acceleration due to better air flow. I find it hard to believe that the long tubes deliver air any cooler than the factory box.
Also, Carlos is right on about your ECU needing time to adjust.

I put a NISMO CAI on my Frontier and it killed the low end so I added a JBA cat-back and it woke it right up. The CAI is a waste if the exhaust isn't also freed up...in my experience in a Frontier that is.
