Default question on g35/350z stock exhaust

Are stock g35 coupe exhaust system the same as a stock 350z exhaust? In my opinion, the g35 coupe exhaust sounds better, and slightly louder than a 350z. Sound-wise, do you guys think the g35 coupe exhaust sounds the same or better than the z? The reason i ask this is because i am thinking about taking out the 350z exhaust and putting in a g35 exhaust. will this cause performance problems? Im not into those aftermarket exhaust that are obnoxiously loud. Thanks alot

Just switch to a Nismo exhaust. It'll make it a bit louder while keeping the same sound.

Welcome. Find a cat-back exhaust for the 350Z.
Find the same exhaust for the G35.
Are they the same part number? Question answered.

+1. I was looking for a little deeper sounding exhaust, but did not want to be heard 3 blocks away. So i picked up the nismo exhaust. Stainless steel exhaust that adds some bling to the rear of your car. Exhaust is a little louder, a little deeper, but won't wake up any neighbors at 5am after a long night out.

yeahh im leaning towards the nismo exhaust now. How much should it cost? I looked up ebay to get a rough estimate (i know the prices on ebay are usually overpriced). The ones i saw on ebay were about $900-$950. How much should it be, and what are some legit sites i can buy it from?

The NISMO is 4x louder than the OEM exhaust. It is okay at idle, but it really booms when you accelerate even a little.

I'm looking at different ways to silence my NISMO down a couple of db's right now. I think the OEM exhaust sounded better. The NISMO is too deep and too loud for my tastes.

The G's OEM b-pipe is a little bit longer than the Z's and so are the tips.

This is true. They sell an extension pipe to span the difference and allow 350z exhausts to be used on the G coupe. The pipe is only about 6 inches long at most.

It is available from Performance Nissan (performancenissan.com) and is part # G35EXTENSION. This would indicate that, no, the G35 exhaust would be too long for the Z.

Thats weird. To me the G35 exhaust sounds softer and weaker than the Z's. Anyway, like others have said, the G and Z exhaust are different.

^^^I dont know but i seem to be able to hear a G exhaust more than i do a Z exhaust. I was walking through the streets just yesterday, when i saw a white Z roadster go by and heard the low grumble. But i was concentrated on the sound, and even wit hthe concentration i felt it was not THAT loud. Later on a G went by and it was much more noticeable. I dont know, maybe a pysocological thing

alright thanks alot guys. Im probably going to invest in the nismo exhaust now. I heard clips of it, and it sounds pretty good. And the fact that its lighter than the stock exhaust doesnt hurt. How much would the nismo parts be? I saw on one site $1049. Is this fair? I dont have much money now, so this will probably be something that i pursue later on.

Probably just in different gears. It also depends on how you drive it.

There is a group buy right now for $950. My dealer beat that price when I showed it to him (they told me they didn't make a penny on my exhaust... who knows?).

I've owened both & can honestly day that the G Coupe exhaust is a bit more robust, and bit deeper.

if thought the same thing. when im at work and see a G or FX take off at the stoplight right there, it sounds louder than Zs.

maybe its cuz they are usually automatic and it stays at that 3k-3.5k rev range where the exhaust has that signature tone. i call it "WAAOOO".

Yup, you have to consider weight of the other vehicles also.

More weight = More engine work = a different exhaust tone
