my 2006 Z
I just bought a 2006, 6spd...yahooooooooo! This car is baddassss!!!
Although I felt the engine was restricted, either the air filter or exhaust... but the stock muffler seems to sound/flow pretty good. So after reading the web, the word is to keep the stock airbox. It is actually designed pretty well, a radiused snorkel type inlet that smacks right into flat panel filter, then a pretty straight tube to manifold. Only thing I would add is an inlet extension to the grill. So I added the K&N panel filter ($40) and Shazaaaam!! What a difference... Immediate throttle response, no lag, quicker rev up, and carries through entire RPM range.... the stock box gets pressurized from RAM AIR, so I highlu doubt any CIA will flow better with all that turbulence and misdirected hot air from engine..... Hope that helps y'all....

thats it, im going back to my stock box for my 06, then dropping in a k/n. i definitely did feel like i lost something when i threw in that popcharger, although i love the sound it made when i shift...i dropped in the nismo catback today and im loving the deeper sound so im sure i wont notice the missing popcharger if i replace it.
i feel like doing this tonight, anyone know if autozone carries k/n drop-ins for 350z??

yep part# 33-2031-2 around $45-49 dollas, but if you go to Kragen web and pay online then pickup at store, you get extra $5 off from $42.99 so $37.99 + tax, same as cheapest websites... believe me, I checked them alllllllllll...... it's preoiled, so you just drop it in, 30 seconds to blast off....nice

clear markers are a snap themselves, its the prep time that kills you.
the RIGHT way to do it is to remove the front bumper and then replace them , as suggested by the directions that come with the clear markers.
the QUICK way to do it is to fit your hands between the bumper and liner while trying to unscrew everything and replace them. you will scratch up your hands and possibly snap a plastic clip.

i dont think ive ever seen a Kragen auto supply store here in Miami. i looked on autozones website for that part number and it says they carry it at most stores. ill call ahead and make sure they have in stock.
the nismo exhaust is worth every penny, love the deeper sound, feels like i gained a bit of torque(might just be the goof off fumes) , i personally wouldnt go with any other catback system unless youre looking to wake the neighbors.

swapped out the popcharger for the stock airbox and added a k/n filter i picked up at autozone for $45.
i dont feel that things got better or worse. i was right about the nismo catback replacing the loudness that the popcharger was making before, so i dont feel the car sounds any wimpier than before.
i think the stock airbox will help out with these miami summer temps.

If anything, the heat reduction may be the best benefit alone! What do you think about these resonated test pipes? I was thinking of doing that first w/ stock exhaust and test it out. Only $183. for the test pipe from Megan, any experience w/ them?

ive read many posts of users enjoying the resonated test pipes, doesnt really matter which brand.
i was also about to order the test pipes, but caught a good deal on the nismo exhaust i couldnt resist.
im doing my mods one area at a time, i like to buy 1 engine mod, then 1 exterior mod, and vice-versa...it keeps me from blowing too much money on just 1 area of the car and ending up having to dump the parts later in the classifieds at a hit.

just noticed on the k&n website, there is no dyno data for panel filter vs. stock - I think it's because they don't want to show how close the panel filter performs to their CAI kits......

I friend sold me a stillen heat shield for 20. I don’t think it makes a difference. After driving for like 30min I checked/felt the stillen air box and it was freaking hot, stock my hand inside the air duct and it was as hot as in the engine bay.
The air box is almost a close space so probably after driving for a while you get some heat soak.

the stillen does not enclose the intake completely and is open at the bottom so you are going to get heat soak whereas the stock airbox is enclosed. i don't see the advantage of buying both stillen and jwt....that is a lot of money for literally no gain over the stock
just my .02 but i would keep the stocker and buy a k&n filter...i have the 06 airbox and it is a little better design than the 04 airbox and should be able to pick one up cheap here on the forum.
