Default Gutting Resonated Test Pipes

Ok, so Ive gone thru 2 sets of test pipes already thanks to the flexing Nismo y-pipe. I have a set of Ichiba resonated test pipes and I figured, since one split in half, would it be an issue if I just took the resonators out, since they were already loose in there, and just had a muffler shop reweld them. I know of this really good and experienced muffler shop that does all sorts of custom work. Guy is familiar with welding stainless steel. I am also thinking of having him reinforce the y-pipe. Wouldnt it be just like having non-resonated test pipes? Only with the big resonator piece on there? Anyone done this before?

The issue with the cracking is that there is a bind on the system...only way out of this will be to install felx joints to take the stress off of the upstream components.
