I'm looking at getting an intake, exhaust, and HFCs in the near future. I message shariff@forged for some info as looking to do the purchasing through Forged Performance. He told me they only sell RT HFCs cause they dont crack. I hadn't really read or heard much about the RT one on the site here cause all I ever see reccomend are the Crawfords, and then maybe the Ultimate Racing ones. At least those are the only two mentioned in the "FINALLY ANSWERED: Whats the best...." thread. ANd the Crawford just seem the most recommended around here.

I researched the RT ones a bit and found out there the highest flowing HFC you can get without getting test pipes, but there seems to be some issolated issues with them imploding. Is it proven that the RT ones put a couple more HP down? Is there more rasp to them vs the Crawfords, cause there more high flowing(noticable amount)? I'm most likely going to be pairing them with the Greddy EvoTT exhaust, will they both sound pretty much the same on this exhaust?

The major thing is there $100 more expensive then the Crawfords, is this because of build quality, and the fact they wont crack? I just want a couple more opinions on these before I pull the trigger on them and spend the extra 100 bucks.

 

I have the UR... not sure if its Ultimate Racing or Unorthodox Racing though, bought them from Z1 in Long Island. I like them a lot.

 

i have R/T HFC's and love them. I can't say they are "better" than crawford, but they do perform well. I do not have any rasp at all, but my exhaust already has rather nice resanators inline with the exhaust. I believe this has cut back any unwanted exhaust noise. No signs of leaking or imploding on my Z, i probably have 30k miles on them and they had 10k when i purchased them off someone local. Crawford has a rather good reputation in terms of quality and performance, so matching and comparing them could cause controversy. But hell, what doesn't on this forum lol

 

All the HFC except for the metallic cores use the same ceramic core... I'd go with whatever is cheapest honestly.

 

I've had the Random Tech cats on my G mated to my Borla exhaust. It really made it sound meaner and gave me a lil more power when I dynoed the car. Eventually the right passenger side cat imploded.

I switched out to used Crawford high flow cats. They worked out well, but they eventually imploded as well after 35k miles. Again the right passenger side cat imploded and blew shards of catalyst honey comb thru my borla exhaust.

I am now using Fast intention high flow cats (ceramic core). They haven't imploded on me yet (crossing fingers). I hope they last for a very long time,

 

How many miles did you put on the RT ones before they imploded? Did you just have a lot of bad luck with your HFCs, or is it the norm for them to eventually implode?

I have RT cats on my car. With the Nismo catback exhaust sounded great but the sound is now much more quiet with my twins. Zero issues with the RT high flows before and after going FI.

 

I have the random tech cats and I love them.

 

I really don't remember as I had got them used. I would have never known my RT cats were bad had I not dyno'ed my car. My A/F was super abnormal. Took the imploded cat off and shook it and you could hear something loose in it. The crawford cats I got used as well from KPierson's (www.kptechnologies.com) car. The Fast Intention high flow cats I bought brand new.

RT"s implode and Crawfords crack, rattle and don't fit well.

At least that's what I got from my research several months ago.

My descision..... Leave the stock cats on.

 

Fast Intentions > Crawford > RT

You can't go wrong with Fast Intenions or Crawfords.

I have heard many complaints about quality and fitment issues. I can't confirm it, but even some personal track buddies have told me to stay away from RT; they are very knowledgeable in the VQ department and I'll trust their judgement.

Besides, im sold on Fast intentions.

I love my Nismo exhaust but want a little added power but not at the expense of dreaded rasp and or irritating drone. Do Hiflo cats give you either of these and are the metal substrates worth the money?

HFC's are nice 'til one or both implode... One of my Random Tech hi flow metalic cats recently imploded with about 6,000 miles on 'em, getting all sorts of 02 related codes thrown on the ECU... And like Demon stated above, I couldn't keep my AFRs in tune... Not cool for a pair of $650 cats (I bought new). Sooo... I put the factory cats back on & ordered a set of Fast Intentions resonated test pipes (with extra WB 02 bungs welded in) to replace them. I'd like to see *those* implode! Lol! :-)

Seriously though... I'd stay away from RT.
