the figure 8 combines the exhaust flow to A) help speed up the flow of exhaust gases and also to help even and smooth it out, which will help keep/gain the low end torque while at the sametime opening the system up to give you more top end, its a win win situation

Excellent work Eric!

The figure 8 is an excellent idea and the exhaust looks like it runs the car's length unimpeded. Nice and tidy!
I can't wait to hear it and see the dyno results. This car definitely needs a more aggressive exhaust note to go with it's aggressive looks.

Do you happen to have large size pics of the entire system? I am going to try and build it for my coupe today what type of mufflers did you use??

http://www.extremespeedonline.com/exhaust.asf

the hardest part was getting the exhaust ports to line up in the rear of car, of course other than planning the whole thing out.

I used a crappy microphone from my laptop so it doesnt do it justice, but its as good as i can do for now. I'll try to get a better one later

Sounds great! Does the exhaust resonate at all? It's a bit tough to tell from the clip. Thanks a bunch man!

I have to say, having heard it live, that the clip is a fairly good representation of the sound of the exhaust. You have to filter out the obvious artifacts of having been recorded with a laptop mic, of course. It's not an extremely deep rumble, but a good baritone roar, and he's still got some crackle (especially when revved under no load) that we think will go away once the resonated tips are on.

I was hoping we'd get together today & get some video of the car going past that we could post, but it didn't work out.

By resonate I mean does it sound like a buzzsaw or something is rattling? I cut my pre muffler off the G coupe and it sounds terrible, kinda like something is hitting a piece of tin about 5 times a second. This sound occurs anywhere above 4 grand, especially under load. I guess you could liken the sound to a "rice burner", no offense, but like you said, we all know the sound. I'm not sure if you've ever heard a e46 M3, but it sounds like a buzzsaw (i just sold mine, that was the only thing I disliked about the car) but the resonating sound is 10X's worse than the M's sound.

it certainly does NOT sound like a buzzsaw or a rice burner. Its a deep sound, it still has a bit of crackle without load(in nuetral) at HIGH revs if you "blip" the throttle, but very litttle, and when youre at WOT driving, it sounds AMAZING, a deep very solid ROAR, will sound even better when i get the tips on, itll quiet it down quiet a bit.

Awesome! Looking at your pictures again, It looks like the most difficult part will be the X pipes, are these available in a generic form, like from flowmaster or borla or something? If not, is there any way that I can purchase them from you? Thanks man! and again, she's a work of art!

i most def feel gains when driving, other than being louder and throatier, it certainly accelerates faster. and the car has a nice deep hummmm to it, i truly feel this is as close to sounding like a v8 as you can posssibly get. it has turned heads and Ive gotten LOTS of compliments on it, people stopped me in the Lowes parking lot, to say "damn, that sounds sweet, thats not stock is it?? All and all by FAR the best mod i could have done especially for the money, the $250 i wasted on my Injen does not even compare. Anyone in the area that wants to meet up I'll happy to. I'll be in Charlotte most of the day on tuesday and in raleigh the rest of the week.

Default Figure 8

The figure 8 comes from the X pipe which crosses the pipes. Your muffler shop should have them if not you can order them on-line or any racing catalog. I believe the X pipe free's up some room because if you run two parallel pipes you might run into rubbing and clanking. Which could be VERY Annoying. On a rainy day the pipes will flex a bit from temperature change and might move around so the more room you can create the better.

Default Sweet!

The tips do a good job of mellowing out the sound, just what Eric was looking for. Coming back from the shop, we traded cars & I blew by Eric at WOT so he could get a chance to hear what his car sounds like to others. I had to clean my seat before I could get back in my car! J/K

We're trying to arrange a little video session so you all can hear what it sounds like.
