Default NEW, Custom Catback DUAL Exhaust**PICS**

Well, I spent the day at the exhaust shop, and BOY WHAT A DAY, i was giddy like a school girl.

After some serious planning and playing around with ideas, the idea hit us.

What came from the brainstorming session was, what i must say, is the baddest thing Ive seen and heard in a LONG time. Its a work of art, absolutely beautiful.(at least to me). It has an Amazing deep grumble sound, much louder than stock, BUT the resonated tips were on back order, so itll quiet down a bit, we just threw on some exhaust pipe and angle cut them until they get in next friday. Ok ok, so on to the pics.

the exhaust actually makes a Figure 8, both areas that touch, crisscross for a better tone and to help speed the exhaust flow.

BTW, now that you all have stopped drooling, anyone in the area, I worked out a deal, and I will be reselling this exact exhaust(your choice of tips) for $780 INSTALLED!!!
PM me for Details
(sorry for the plug at the end, I'll post another inthe FS forum.

I was there to see this - I must say, it was pretty cool.
Hats off to Eric for being the guinea pig, but the risk was worth it.

Sound - it does sound incredible -
Looks, pictures do not do it justice.....

If any of you are interested in - you should consider R&J - this guy did a fantastic job on Eric's car..

The coupe goes on the rack next.......

Default My impressions...

First, Eric is nothing like a school girl.....

Second, Robert at R&J is an artist. (He even signs his work! Look at the little plate that says "R&J" in the first pic!

Take a close look at the pics Eric posted. Robert designed this exhaust system as he went along, not having done this with a 350Z before. Even so, everything is solid and symmetrical, the welds are smooth and everything is painted, and it really looks good! They opened the system up with true twin pipes, and they improvised the cross-overs to smooth out the tone.

I checked it out at idle and went along for a ride. At idle it has a nice low tone; not quite a V8 rumble, but then it's not a V8. It's louder and lower than mine with stock muffler and the resonator removed. Under power it sounds...powerful!

We're waiting on those resonated tips. As it is now there's still some snap-and-crackle when rev'ed with no load, and the exhaust sound reverberates a bit unpleasantly (to my ears) in the passenger compartment. Once those tips are on, though, I expect Eric will have a much better sound than what I have. (Or, rather, better than what I currently have! I may need to pay R&J a visit myself!)

i "sortve" agree with Brian, at WOT, it does get loud, but the tips are currently just wide open, the resonated ones will tune the sound and rid it of what LITTLE crackle it has at hi-throttle. I am MORE than pleased with it. And for the record, am i NOT into loud ricey exausts, so i dont want people to think it even remotely sounds "ricey"(sorry to use the word, but everyone im sure knows what i mean)Hope I didnt offend anyone.

E- are you trying to get the best sound, performance, or both? Do you have plans to dyno? Is $780 stainless? I have my eye on the Borla dual as well as any other dual creation with max gain...

Its not stainless, but he can do it in stainless if you want to pay the extra for parts, and im SURE itll be still cheaper than the Borla.

One thing I dont like about the borla, is, is its not REALLY a dual exhaust, it still shares the same SINGLE muffler, ehhhhh. I dunno, maybe they did it for the same reasons I crisscrossed my pipes, but all i know is mine SOUNDS awesome, and i am going for A) better sound, and B) better performance. and i LOVE the sound of my new exhaust.

looks very nice. if you could post a sound clip that would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking of doing something similar. Also, how much more would it be to get the stainless steel?

Thanks,

Steve

the pipes i did are not mandrel bent, however he can do them if wanted. For this setup i truly didnt think it was neccesary, the exhaust flow has been free'd up so much, that there wasnt the need for the extar work to mandrel bend

Awesome, any idea how difficult it is to fabricate the entire thing? I have a friend who worked on my S4's exhaust who is quite skilled. Would the figure "8" be difficult to create? This is the first ray of light since november regarding my coupe and aftermarket parts :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D (did I mention I'm excited)

whats the reason for figure 8 pipe? Why did you decide to do that as opposed to running in parallel?
