Default long tube headers

Anyone out there try these long tube headers. They eliminate the cats and bolt up to the y-pipe directly. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-07...QQcmdZViewItem

StreetSport headers??? Ummm - Pass...

I think I'd get the Crawford long tube headers instead. You don't want those things cracking or breaking after a bloody knuckle install...

They look good, but can't have that much advantage, if any over regular headers/test pipes. Install would be a PITA.

favorite quote from the listing

"At this time, we are the only company in the world with this exact header"

yeah, really? I don't doubt it.....with good reason

But, at least they show them fitting in the pics

Long tubes can have a HUGE effect over the conventional shorties - if the rest of the car (heads, cams, intake) is setup to take advantage. The ones pictured would essentially be no better than a good shortie and test pipes. Those bends, in a word, suck, and I don't know who "designed" that merge setup either. It certainly would be loud as hell though.

Proper long tube headers for a VQ:

You get what you pay for...

Just remember though, the Chinese have to do something with all that excess lead being sent back by Mattel.

I picked up on the merge collector too. Also, is there a crimp in one of those bends? If anything at least someone is trying to make them. Has anyone used long tube headers out here? If so what are the gains/losses.

I wish I had a project 350Z so that I could buy these just to see how good the gains would be. The quality might not be great, but at least it would give us an idea of the gains. I've installed LTs on my friends LS1 Z28 4AT It was a hellish install, but the car went from 13.6s@103mph to 13.2s@107mph with the LTs and a reflash. Simply amazing. IMO, if you're going to do headers, LTs are the only way to go. Like the LS1, the OEM VQ35DE/Revup exhaust manifolds are already nearly headers and installing shorty headers (all the current makes) just doesn't make much of a benefical difference. Sure, they all gain some power, but the gains are in the upper rpms and the average power across the powerband really doesn't change much. Gaining 5 to 8 whp from 5800-6600rpms won't really improve 1/4 mile performance. With LTs, the gains will be from the midrange to high rpms, elevating the entire powerband that's where measurable gains will be found.

I think this LT design with some slightly beefer pipes (not necessarily larger diameters), reinforced supports, and jethot coating would be great. I'd also add a single cat just south of the y-pipe junction to improve exhaust velocity. I'd also relocate the o2 sensors behind the cat to keep the ECU happy.

I don't like the upstream o2 being in one pipe. That means it's only reading that one cylinder....

My buddy NASTYBOY who is on the forum has long tube headers that he just installed and his power gains over the DC sport headers was real good. The install he said was not bad compared to the DC's. He has some dyno sheets up and video too. Too lazy to link so just search his name.

forget the name of the company but when the z/g first came out they were the only option for headers and cats...it was a 1 piece long tube header, that scammer david stoner was selling them but seems like the people who ordered it never got their orders

obviously without actually seeing them in person it's hard to tell but, they don't even look equal length. and the middle exhaust pipe is kinked at the beginning it looks like.

+1 on the fact that at least someone is making them - but this product doesn't look quality.

also, Dave B you're right about the LS1. i've spent many years around the f-body world and long tubes were by far the choice for headers. those who mixed HFCs, long tubes and a magnaflow/borla/flowmaster exhaust saw great results.
