I love the tone of my Nismo, but I want it much louder. Test pipes give it rasp, so that idea's out of the choices. Am I stuck with trying to find a louder exhaust with similar tone?

HFC will make it louder, but it sounds like you want it obnoxiously loud....in which case you need a different exhaust

 

Not necessarily obnoxious, just definately present at WOT in the loud range of the engine (3-5k).

Do most aftermarket exhausts for the Z keep that tone?

 

i have the HKS dual and it is by far the sexiest thing i have ever heard. Startup has a nice low rumble, cruising speed has zero drone. When you get on it the thing screams, not to mention looks very sexy.

 

resonated test pipes make the nismo sound very loud and aggressive without rasp. Just make sure you get a nice brand. The nismo cracks test pipes like no other. High flow cats sound just right with the nismo. Loud enough but not too loud where you hate your car.

 

That's the one with the interesting chamber design?

Does the knock-off on eBay of the HKS sound the same?

 

Just watched a Youtube video of Stillen test pipes with the Nismo. Sounds much better!

 

X02/HKS with the goodies will make it loud.

 

HFCs will raise the DB on your exhaust just like test pipes -minus the rasp and the screaming sound at WOT. It will sound louder but in a cleaner way.

 

What about resonated test pipes instead? Similar outcome?

 

I had TP on my 05 with the nismo and I HATED it so much so I took them off and sold them the next day. It was like an 82 civic with a fart can.

 

I found the setup I want. UR (which I don't know what the acronym means) HFC's and Strup headers.

lol, resonated, non-resonated... it wont matter Test pipes produce rasp, end of story.

 

you must not know anything about the test pipes on the nismo. Some will not give rasp at all. I can guarentee that. Nismo seems to not like non resonating test pipes.
