I always run w/o the cats and never loose power (N/A) but in my last car (Camaro SS 97) was OBD II and the check engine ligth always go on... I bougth a O2 Simulator to fix the problem.
I just wondering if you have to put a O2 Simulator on the Z too.
Btw I never heard of a N/A car loose power for taking off the Cats

You won't lose power. People who say you need backpressure have no evidence except posts they previously read. We aren't driving a 1 liter motor with no power. Our engine makes power and will make more when we allow more air to flow in and out of it. Just like any internal combustion engine.

Lets see, all you have to have is a straight pipe running from the heads and exiting the rear and oh, backpressure is a myth. Sounds good to me, no manifold, headers, cats, silencer or mufflers. Why are we being offered these useless objects in parts catalogs? Obviously we have been led astray by engineers, tuners and others of their ilk. The EPA and other gov't agencies are useless and shouldn't exist, they just suck up tax dollars.

Are you trying to be retarded? Or have you not thought about it? Man, these parts exist because of laws. Tuners are trying to work with the laws regarding noise ordinance, emissions, etc. They are trying to produce gains that keep your car legal in all respects. They are not building full exhaust systems because they make more power than open headers. If you want to mazimize power building potential, not every mod you do is going to be inspection legal. Not every part you add will have a CARB exemption, etc. Do some research on the basics of making power. You can tune torque and horsepower with the diameter of the primaries on your headers and anything beyond that is restrictive.

I remember when every major city in the country's air was BROWN because there weren't any pollution laws. I have no desire to go back to that era. The anti-pollution laws were enacted for a reason and so were the anti-noise regulations. There are more cars registered in the US than there are people to drive them.
As for retarded, I would advise you to not call people names on this site, read the site rules, you are out of line.
So I don't give a **** about your power building theories and practices, they don't belong anywhere but a race course and I will not condone their use on the street. BTW, noise pollution ordinances for race tracks in urban areas require the cars run mufflers and the tuners, not only used mufflers, but they GAINED HP w/the mufflers. The only configuration I've heard that gains power for street driving w/o mufflers is on Turbos and they are cat back systems like the Neon turbo, it doesn't need bckpressure, NA cars do. Don't confuse louder w/more power, it isn't correct.
I realize that louder is not more power.
I have been racing NHRA since I have had a drivers lisence and my family longer. First of all, I am definitley not asking for you to condone anything. This thread was never about emissions it was about whether or not more power is made without cats. Let me say that the cars that made power with mufflers simply did not have an ideal header setup. Also, what company is going to sell a product to racers or to anyone for that matter and claim losses when the competition will undoubtledly claim gains?
By the way, there is scientific study that states that they are not completley certain that cars caused the depletion of the ozone or the greenhouse effect. Unless you have spent some time studying the upper atmosphere, don't spout what you heard on TV because that isn't any more true (or false) than anything you have never seen or done yourself.
I never asked you to give anything much less a "****" about my "power building theories." But just so you know, it isn't good to hold that stuff in...
You do your things your way and I will do things mine. No big deal. Welcome to America. If there are consequences to our actions, we face them. Have a good day, straightlace.

Straightlace? Its odd to hear that label being applied to me, I guess anything can happen, if you live long enough. I can't relate to someone who has little concern for the environment we live in, takes all kinds to make a world where the denizens of the U.S. consume over 30% productivity and not be concerned about those who come after us. The 6th extinction is moving right along, as expected. Sorry to interfere with your progress, please continue.

Ah, just as I suspected. A treehugger. Look I care about the environment. I don't litter, I am all for planting trees in place of ones we cut down, etc. But you sound like you should sell your car and walk, pal. Do I have my cats in place? yes. I am probably not even going to do extensive mods to my Z. You have deviated so far from the topic of this thread it isn't even funny. Once again, I will restate that you can make more power with no cats than with them. This has nothing to do with the advocation of a catless car world where we all breathe smog. Relax. This is about building power and not about your personal agenda to save the world.

How does a discussion of running w/o cats serve this forum? Are we condoning it or are we pissin' in the wind? This was my purpose, environmental issues aside. Are we talking about racing or what? I fail to see this topic as useful, thats all. If you care to demonstrate its usefulness, I will be happy to read it for my own edification. Otherwise, the topic is moot and close enough to academic, to be totally useless.
First of all, I did not start this topic. Second of all, yes, in fact, we are talking about racing more often than not at this website. There are no race cars with cats and the street typically follows the track when it comes to technological advances and gains in power. There are some exceptions, yes, and no your or my Z is not a full tilt race car. Nevertheless, I think you will find that this topic is about building power with or without cats and not about the effect that may have on the environment. If you think this topic is useless it may behoove you to know that it is not a requirement to participate on every thread at this website.

I have read a few posts that specifically stated the cel does not light w/o cats.
There was a 'anybody interested' post from someone that was going to make headers with collection tube that was long enough to extend from engine through to where cat-back exhaust bolts up. I asked same cel question on that thread and the reply was 'no cel'. Even w/o sensors.
I also asked about the ECU going into limp mode without the sensors and the reply was 'no change'.
I find it all hard to believe though.

Hey Mr. Potaro Head and Boomer... that was interesting
About the topic Chebesto also mention that the cel does not light w/o cats.
So maybe I'm gonna try it
P.S. Sorry "Boomer"
