Default Headers

I know Borla has released headers but I don’t see them posting any HP gains. Does anyone know of any companies selling equal length headers. The equal length headers are the only ones that put down any real HP gains. I think Nismo will be releasing equal length headers soon…

BUT, the Borla headers are NOT equal length headers. The NISMO headers ARE equal length headers and will gain 13-15hp. Borla headers look like they are gaining nothing?

So who knows the definitive answer? Are the Borla headers equal length or not? Headers are my next purchase and its between Nismo and Borla, but if they are not equal length then Nismo it is. David Borla where are you?

Yo buddy, do you have any sound clips or pics of your borla headers? What kind of gains are you getting? what HP gain is Borla claiming? PICS, SOUND, anything?

Here is a thread that I started a while back. https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=32732

Sorry, no sound clips. Dr. Bonz posted sound clips of the dual exhaust though.

I looked at your topic and the borla headers are def. not equal length headers. Just look at the difference in the length of the pipes on the escort and crawford Z long tube equal length headers

I always assumed that they were equal length looking at the set that I have but after this post I started to wonder. Solution, I measured them.

Passengers Side:
Front: 20"
Middle: 16"
Rear: 15"

Drivers Side:
Front: 22"
Middle: 19"
Rear: 17 "

Conclusion: They are NOT equal length I am still happy with them for the price.

Thanks for the info anyways teh215. I'm pretty sure they will still make power looking at the stock headers. I guess this means I need to look at Nismo's headers.

Headers don't necessarily have to be equal length to make more power. The benefits you get from headers are that they are usually larger diameter tubes with better flow properties than cast iron manifolds and that each exhaust pulse creates a vacuum behind itself which helps draw out the exhaust gas from the other cylinders. This gives the benefit of having a completely expelled exhaust charge (no backpressure), so that when the cylinder is on it's next intake stroke, it gets a nice fresh mixture of air and fuel without any remaining exhaust gasses left over to taint the mixture.

Depending on cam overlap you can even get a positive intake charge, meaning more than it's actual volume similar to a FI setup if the headers are creating enough vacuum from the other exhaust pulses.

The collector, pipe length, and diameter have a lot to do with the exhaust gas velocity and scavenging effect. By pipe length I mean long tube headers versus shorties, not if each pipe is the exact length as the others.

The amount of power you make (aka how much CFM you are pumping), cam profile, cylinder head design, firing order, and ignition timing have a lot to do with creating a "perfect" header. In the real world you can sort of "average" most of these things since most people have stock cams, stock tune, stock heads, etc.

I am not bagging on equal length headers but I am saying there are other factors to consider besides just this. In some setups, the firing order may cause the headers to make better power with UN-even length primaries.

One thing that I have noticed is that the Borlas are the only headers that has something resembling a collector...I did a cheesy video of the headers. if anyone is interested, PM me. It is just me running my crappy webcam over them to show what they look like.
