Default 3" on N/A set up

I did search and couldn't find much feedback. I wanted to know if it is bad to have 3" exhaust on an N/A?

If the Y pipe is 2.5" and then the rest back is 3" would that be okay? There is a Topspeed in the FS forums that has this combination.

Some people have said you lose torque and horsepower others say it won't hurt anything.

I just need some more advice.

Thanks.

Well I am trying 450.00 shipped for both the Y pipe and exhaust. Would this be worth it? Just have to see if he takes that or not.

You will lose your bottom end power and gain some top end. For sure

If you install a 2, 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust the dyno results will be different. Not good or bad just different.

Thanks for the informative answers. Any gain is good. This will just be my first mod and plan on doing a spacer next. As long as I won't lose power just to gain sound, I would be happy.

This is what I heard ( It could be wrong) If you add bolt-on's ie exhaust you will gain HP for a while then your computer will compensate (adjust) and you are back where you started. Add all the bot-on you want, then send your computer out or get it tuned for the bolt-on you added.

z-mini im not too sure thats true the computer needs to relearn your mods so thats why after every mod you reset it...it doesnt try and bring your car back down to stock power

And a tune will definatly improve everything about the cars power but most people wait till they get all the boltons first

I have heard this happening with an aftermarket air/fuel controller like the AFC. I think that a person should be okay just resetting the ECU after install.

Like you guys also said it is more benificial to get the ecu retuned but I would wait until I get a good set of bolt ons completed.

I wouldn't recommend running a 3'' if you are planning on stayin NA. You will lose power and it will be loud as hell.

I am curious of this too. Is it just the 3" piping that makes it so loud and the 2.5 is more refined?

Lose power in certain areas and gain in others? Did you have a 3" set up that you had dyno'd? Not that I don't believe you just want to get some more info.

no, I was looking to buy a 3'' exhaust now because I plan on going FI in the future but not for a while. After plenty of research and scanning through threads I decided to go with 2.5''. I would say mostly due to the sound aspect of it, 3'' is just too unrealistic for me, especially with test pipes. I dont know about dyno numbers but from what I gathered the back pressure is too low when NA and it really isnt smart. This is just what I gathered on my own time, I advise you to do your own research and decide whats best for you.

Thanks for the reply. There are a ton of threads but finding the right info can be a challenge sometimes. It helps to hear that. I don't have plans of F/I right now so I am thinking 2.5 is the way to go for me.
