Thumbs up PowerLab 3/8" Plenum Spacer Review

Definite THUMBS UP on this modification.
I ordered it from Ebay seller concept-Z-Performance for $192 Shipped.
it came in a timely manner... so i was happy with the price and delivery.

now I am relatively new to the whole 350z scene, so naturally ive asked around, and looked before I made my purchase.
I have been told "eh, it doesnt do much" to "it was an awesome mod"
so I had to find out for myself.

upon opening the package from powerlab, the box came sealed perfectly..
all the parts were sealed, and labeled to where they went, and the instructions were pretty much dead on..
the spacer itself was great, it was a great finish, and the gaskets were already installed on both sides! Additionally, it came with a TB coolant bypass (90* bend copper piece, nothing spectacular)

the installation went great, I had my fiance as my "installation director" yes shes hot, and if I have some time, ill get some pics for you leg humpers.

the install was very straight forward, and everything went together perfectly. in all we spent about 1.5 hours on it (taking our time) and if i had to do it again, it would probably only take me an hour (lots o bolts on this thing)

TESTDRIVE:
all things equal, this plenum spacer (came with strut tower spacers as well) fit perfect under the hood.
upon startup, nothing unusual to report.

slowly in first and second, there isnt much to report.
however, when you romp on it, Past 4k rpm the spacer really starts to show its benefit.
the car cuts through the rpms like butter, and really pulls very nicely to redline with no problem.
upon shifting hard, it just comes back for more in the upper R's..

throttle response while cruising is greatly improved... ive found myself doing 80 on an on ramp where before it would be at 70ish..

there is no change in intake, or exhaust note..

overall i would rate this mod a B+ the only reason it doesnt get an A is because of the price.

the seller on the other hand gets an A+ because of the price (normally theyre like 200+)
I would estimate the car got the reported 11 peak HP, and if it lost anything at all... its hard to notice

Next up: Underdrive pullies from TopSpeed
and Testpipes from TopSpeed

Nice report....thanks for taking the time. You've also nailed the behavior on this forum to a "T" --"leg-humpers". LMAO.

I have a 2003 Track Edition.. ive been looking for some stock leather seats, or maybe even cloth.. there are some two tone black and silver seats on this one.. they came with the car, and im not feeling them..

its nice i got it with 29k on the clock for 19k with a 5 yr 60k warranty..
which im going through hell with .. but thats neither here nor there..

love the rays rims, and the brembo brakes.. just sets the car apart.

10.9 is what they dynoed at... from PowerLab..
I would have to say its right on..
I came from the 3000gt and Twin turbo dodge stealth world (owned 6 of them over the years) and none of the non turbo cars responded that good to modification for sure..

interested to see how the testpipes and pullies do..

To back up this fellow's review, I will also say that throttle response is incredible now. I have been getting lousy gas mileage because I cant keep my foot of the gas! The only thing I can say is that I don't notice much on the top end(past 4.5krpm). Then again I never really pushed the car past that point often... The spacer did changed the sound of the car for me. It def. gives you a deeper growl and I would say that it is almost louder than the stock exhaust listening from the outside.

Overall I would say I got around the 10whp as well. Great product and awesome customer service!

Did you install the optional coolant bypass piece? If so....do you have pictures of the install of the Coolant bypass? how will this help?...also did you do an ECU reset after installing the Spacer?

I did the install of the coolant bypass, you only need to open it, if the outside temperature is below 50deg. It helps by heating the plenum in colder temperatures. You don't have to reset the ECU, unless you see any problems after installation.

Yogurt!, you were on 3si.org right? I used to own a 3000gt before my Z and I used to be on that forum alot.
