Default Putting on a Plenum Spacer

Hey guys. I'm kind of new to the tuning world. I was wondering how hard is it to install the Motordyne Iso Thermal Plenum Spacer Kit on my 350Z. I'm really scared to open up my engine. Tips and tricks would be welcomed. Thanks.

Its pretty easy. All you need is about 1.5 hours to do it.

The first time installing something like this can make you a little nervous when you start, but after you finish, it will be one of thoes situations where you say to yourself "That was easier than I thought it would be."

Probably about 95% of people who get them install it themselves. The good part about it is that it is not really engine work. Its really just air intake manifold work. And it doen't involve a lot of parts or complications.

The air intake manifold, or plenum assembly, is basically 2 parts. A upper and lower halves. You open it up like a clam shell and slide in the spacer, close it back up and you're done.

If you were to install the Iso Thermal, it only takes about 10-15 more minutes to unbolt the lower half of the clam shell and install the Aramid gasket.

That's all it really is.

Real engine work (like cams) involves much more effort and complication, but a spacer is a piece of cake by comparison.

In fact, if you ever did plan to do real engine work in the future, this is a good way to begin and learn.

+1. its a simple procedure, just follow the directions, and make sure that when you close it up you TORQUE IT TO SPECS. also, do not allow any random debris to remain the plenum...

this guy just installed it...some good tips here
https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/372338-mrev2-and-5-16-md-spacer-installed.html

it's a very straight forward install...don't worry
makes it very easy if you have an inch/lb torque wrench

What are the possible problems that I could face during this process? Anything really serious?

the only things i can think of off the top of my head are:

snapping bolts (proper use of inch/lb torque wrench prevents that)
forgetting to connect hoses
leak (can tell if idle is unstable after install)

nothing catastrophic

a. Remove the upper plenum. Tie a piece of cord around it. Put a S-hook in the hood. Tie the cord to the S-hook. This will keep the upper plenum out of the way.

b. Members get into trouble when they over-torque stuff. Follow the instructions. Tighter is not better.

From personal experiance, install the spacer after the engine bay has had time to cool down. mine was still warm and i ended up snapping two bolts on the lower collector which ended up taking 2-3weeks to get some new ones shipped in from JP. But it was still worth the wait for the extra little bit of powa and improved throttle response!

Also, im still trying to find that perfect spot for the strut tower bar to sit between the plenum and hood w/o rubbing!
