Default Best test pipes

Anyone had any problems with their Megan Racing Test pipes ?

Also wanted to know if pretty much any test pipes out there (minus the ebay garbage) will bolt on to the stock Y pipe ? (I'm aware the diameter should be the same or close to as the stock y pipe but was wondering if depending on the diameter if the holes for the bolts would matchup)

My other question is ; are test pipes universal throughout 2003-2008 models ?

MUCH THANKS !!

Megans are known to crack fairly easily.

Oh and not all all universal 07-08 are different from the 06 and down.

Old ones did, i've heard no complaints about the new ones with the flex pipe, which are the ones i'm using and have had no problems so far.

• Regardless of the inner diameter, the holes and bolts will line up.

Yeah I wasnt sure about Megan , I purchased a catback from them two years ago for my 97 Eclipse and it said that it was made in cambodia or some third world asian country , maybe thats why their stuff is so cheap ? Anyways I didnt have a problem with the exhaust but ever since I just felt I dodged a bullet.

Has it affected your MPG ?

You should just take a look at the classifieds..there are quite a few sponsors selling TP's for that year.

i had my shop do it but the hassle was the 02 sensor. They said it was screwed on to tight from the factory and they stripped it trying to take it out. So the guy re-threaded it.

In reference to "ebay garbage". I've had My $50.00 ebay garbage test pipes for 3 years without any problems at all.

This is where I got my resonated test pipes. After shipping and all, they were just a tad over $100. The flanges look like they were CNC machined. All of the welds we auto rotary TIG welds. (Not hand welded) I had no issue with quality. They were not advertised as Megan Racing parts, but I can tell that they are from the same factory.

These are pretty easy to install. Jack the car up enough to get some working room. You will need a few long extensions and two U-joints on the socket wrench. You loosen the 4 of the 6 OE flange bolts from inside the engine bay. The remaining two are loosened from under the car.

When you install the new pipe, you get a complete set of bolts and gaskets. Now you can tighten all the bolts from under the car using a wrench and a socket set.

As for the O2 sensor, remove the OE converter with the sensor still attached. Place one end the OE converter flanges into a vice to hold the assembly still. Use penetrant spray on the O2 sensor. Wrench the O2 off now. If it will not budge, then use a propane hand torch to warm up the O2 fitting on the converter. (So it expands) Don't apply the heat to the O2 sensor directly. It should be easier to remove now.

This is easy enough that you don't need to take it to a shop. If the shop agrees to $30 install charge, then you might want to consider it. LOL

Almost 20k miles on my Kinetix resonated TPs, with extra bungs welded in for dual widebands. Holding up perfectly. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty, which I doubt I'll ever need to use... :-)
