Looks like I'm going to be installing test pipes this weekend if the weather holds up. Anyone work under their car without the use of a lift ? IF so how do you guys jack your car up and secure it to make sure the jack doesnt somehow tip over as you're tugging on a tough bolt ?
Never get under a car that is only supported by just a jack. always use jack stands (a.k.a. safety stands) I personally made a set of ramps out of some 2"x10"x12' stock. Works greats on the G and my kitted sebring (both pretty low) Gets around 8" of lift which is good for most things. They are wicked heavy though.

uhh... ya... no jack. You need something that isn't in danger of tipping over.
jack up the car put jackstands and keep the jack up like someone said theres no such thing as too much protection. Also if you are jacking up the front put 2 2x4's behind the rear wheels in case the ebrake, by some cruel luck, gives out.
This post brings back memories of a very good friend at my last job, he did not use jack stands with back up jacks just in case, wife found him dead when she got home from work. Sad but true, always use every precaution when under your car!
LOL - About 20 years ago, my brother got pinned using these to hold up a 1970 Open GT. Turned up on it's side, the top cell collapsed while he was under the car. Thank goodness my neighbor was walking by at the time and that the engine and trans was out at the time. The neighbor grabbed the floor jack and got him out. (No injuries at all, but my brother gave up working on cars.)
