which intake should I get?
I just installed the Injen & i love it. Sounds great & the power is noticeable. Another CAI to lok at is the AEM. Power may not be as good, but it sounds bad ***. Cheaper than the Injen. Hope this helps you out
mbanks21: You don't have any red ones on special? this was for my bro's birthday, cause he just got a chrome silver track
wow, 5 votes for injen and none for nismo, interesting. I am new to the Japan flavor, so please enlighten me guys, please name any worthy alternative I should be looking at. thanks a bunch

AEM = Nismo, and Nismo equals AEM. It's an AEM intake painted black with the Nismo name on it.

hey 2k3silver350Z. I know this is a dumb question but could you please explain a little further on the water logging you were talking about and if that would also apply to the injen CAI.The reason is If Im protected better with the stock intake than an aftermarket CAI I too agree with you.If Im understanding you correctly. thanks in advance.
I am seriously considering the JW Pop Charger, I have checked some sites and it looks like it performs similar to the AEM and Injen CAI's. But, to each their own. Plus it is only $140.

IMHO the Z intake is just about perfect, all you need to do is put a K&N filter in it. If you do want to improve the intake system, replace the plenum with a Crawford. Mine is on it's way to me. From all the glowing reviews I've read on this forum and at FreshAlloy, that is the way to go.

basically what he is talking about when he says water logged is hydrolocking. The engine is sucking in the water and it is unable to displace it since water is not air. While there may be worries of this happening the chances are very very slim and its something that you can control. I have a CAI on my RSX Type S right now and its at the bottom of the front bumper and I have been through some pretty heavy rain storms. So unless you plan on driving through a lake it really isnt a problem
You need to seriously check out the JWT Pop Charger as an alternative to the Injen or AEM CAIs. I was going Injen all the way until I did a little deeper digging. JWT seems to offer a great alternative:
*Has as much power as the Injen claims
*filter is not less than a foot from the ground so should not get a dirty as quickly from road grime, etc.
* hot air from the engine bay shd not be a problem with heat shield installed. When car is staionary yes, the engine will get more hot air, but when moving shd get as much cold air as the Injen or AEM. I want horsepower when I'm moving personally.
* Looks as good or better than Injen or AEM as you can actually see the filter vs. just the tubing.
*Shorter path for air travel through the intake seems to make sense vs the longer path that air has to take in both Injen and AEM.
*I got one at IntenseMotorsports for $110 plus shipping which is at least $100 less than the other two.

Maybe not as sexy overall as a polished Injen, but I think the benefits listed above outweigh that. Reactions?

stock filter is all around best one, imho, second only to boost. heh.
its got adequate heat sheilding, the box has positive pressure while driving thanks to the OE design of that intake hole... the only real thing would to replace the filter with a better high-flow filter....
or go ghetto style and thermal wrap an Injen pipe with the JWT pop charger and make a box to go around the popcharger...

First, the numbers. According to my G-Force Pro Competition, I've gained 6.2 WHP and .1 seconds 0-60. This is the average of 4 runs made in two directions.
I've not done a 1/4 mile run yet, but will at the next SCCA event in two weeks. I'll verify my times with their VBOX.
The filter is already a K&N venturi, perfectly sized for the cavity behind the bumper cover, and the intake tubing of the kit.
The air bypass was the reason I forked out the extra pesos over an Injen or AEM, since this is my daily driver and we get quite a bit of rain where I live.

cept the AEM does not come with the bypass valve and neither does the engine. sorry i'm not spending 30k on a car just to have it get water logged.
You should get a lightning rod and put it on top of your car. Because you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning then getting hydro lock.
